Hooray! You did it! I assume you are home by now, probably unconscious in bed. Keep letting us know how things are going. Were you able to drink Water fairly easily in the hospital?

I've read a lot in this forum about gas pains immediately after surgery, and they are apparently quite intense. My surgeon never said a word about that!

Walk, walk, walk for the gas pains.

I did really well after surgery & went on my first shuffle around the ward within an hour of arriving from recovery. Day of surgery I built up to 2-3x around the ward (which was only about 150 steps per lap).

Slept 1-1.5hrs at a stretch the first night and was up inbetweentimes walking loops. Was up to about 5 loops come morning.

My tummy felt (and looked!) really tight and bloated, but I never experienced the shoulder pain some do. I think it helped losing so much weight pre-surgery as the swelling/gas had plenty of room in there!

YUM.

I'm still on baby food. Here's my 50g of pureed butter chicken with 20g of Protein yogurt I had for dinner last night. I finished about 3/4s and then became nauseous...

Bought little 100g pottles of puree from a company here in NZ. It's been great not having to think about cooking, because cooking smells are blugh!

So does anyone have the answer to “why” after surgery you are only supposed to have Clear Liquids and then full liquids...??

I am a person who likes to know the answer to everything! 🤷‍♀️

Here I was on purees at hospital. Just Water for 24hrs after surgery, then a clear vege broth for lunch, then pureed chicken and yogurt for dinner--I believe that they won't let you leave until you're tolerating puree--even just 1-2tsps. They also do the barium swallow here to check for leaks during the op.

It's interesting the differences place to place!

Yay! Are you doing a pre-op diet?
Yes! I'm on my 9th day. How about you? I do all liquids on Sunday.

Here in Nashville TN, i am on clear liquids until Thursday and then Full Liquids starting then for probably 2 weeks then I get to start the pureed stage for 2 weeks and then reintroduce food! My surgery was 2-11-19! It’s the hardest thing I have ever done!

Well... day 5 post-surgery and I guess I should have expected that it wouldn't all be smooth sailing.

It was my first night sleeping through the night last night, and I am absolutely zonked today. Decided to come off the Celecoxib because I'm not experiencing much pain (aside from the occasional stabbing pains my my tummy/left ribs that seem fairly standard) but, sheesh! The nausea! And complete and utter lack of energy! Ooch, I'm really feeling sorry for myself!

It's 4pm my time and I'm just finishing up my first 500ml. I'm trying... but just every blimmin thing is an effort.

How are our 13th quads doing? Are you experiencing anything similar?

Anyone else suffering post-surgery? I know we've been a fairly upbeat lot, but I want to make sure that we're hearing/encouraging those who aren't lollipops and rainbows, too. (There's plenty of optimism for us all to share, hehe!)

How did you make the ricotta bake? I've got a few weeks before the puree stage, but starting to think of ideas that might sound good. I really love cheese so I already have some Laughing Cow cheese on my counter waiting for me!

I googled Shellys ricotta bake and followed the recipe

Have to admit, Newme, that sound HARD. Good on you for following your surgeon's instructions, though! 🙂

Hi EmzBee--I'm one of the 13th "quads" and this morning was my first really "feel good" day. So, it took until about my 6th day post-op to feel less swollen and tender. I still have one area that hurts on and off--must be a persistent gas bubble on my left side--but other than that, I'm feeling pretty good. I have had very little nausea--thank goodness. I heard that smelling Vicks or peppermint oil helps with the nausea. I sip Water constantly and have gotten in two Protein Shakes a day, but not much else. I have had small amounts of Soup and sugar-free fat-free chocolate pudding. Today is the first day I felt actual hunger and had minor cravings for some foods. Hang in there...I was very frustrated by not feeling well and today it was so much better. It does happen! Wait a few more days....and keep sipping that water!

I also had trouble with sleep, and actually just got a full night last night. I was on the 11th. But around day 5 I think I felt similar to how you are feeling. I had to take gravol and was feeling very sorry for myself. You'll be surprised how much difference a day or two can make. Every day something seems to get a little easier or less painful.

It's part of the healing process to allow your stomach to wake up and start fully functioning.

I am entering day 15. My left side pain is lessening, i'm sleeping better, off pain meds, feeling a little more energy and looking forward to my puree stage Friday. All in all I think things are going pretty good for me and i'm excited for the future. The rough Patches will pass. I've had multiple surgeries so I think I was familiar with the recovery process.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
