Full liquids agaiiinnnn.

Recommended Posts

My secret wish came true. That I would never have to progress to a normal diet. Just kidding - I DO someday want to be able to eat normal friggin' food again. But a few days before my ER visit I started getting crazy nausea and dry-heaving and today my surgeon agreed I should drop back to full liquids from purees. The nausea really doesn't specifically seem food-related. Sometimes I wake up at 1am and dry-heave. Sometimes it's an hour after I eat. Sometimes, after I drink. Sometimes, 4 hours after I've eaten or drank. No rhyme or reason to it whatsoever. Whenever this all heals up, whatever it is, I feel like I am going to have a hard time "trusting" food again, after all of the horribleness from the ulcer and me correlating it to the nausea in one way or another. I'm on full liquids again until January 7th when I see the surgeon. Then ???? I can't even guess anymore. I've been on Zofran, Phenergan, Scopolamine, Pepcid, Reglan, Mylanta, Prilosec, and Compazine for nausea and nothing helps. I think I need an antacid or anti-nausea that hasn't been invented yet or something.

Fortunately I have my BEEF/SALMON Protein isolate apple pie shakes to keep me company. lol. Mmm fish apple pie.

Mousecat and I are charter members of No Way Puree. And when I heard from my clinic today. whoever canceled my Friday ESJ is going to be drawn and quartered, talked to Melissa and now it must be rescheduled. because my surgeon is formulating my future care plan on what scope shows. He wants it done and results back before January15th appointment tout suite!

I just tell myself that this is how it is for everyone. lol! It's easy not to eat when it hurts to, so I really don't mind it. It's the new normal.

And has anyone ever needed a J-tube inserted? A doctor ( not,my surgeon) mentioned it as an alternative, think I would prefer my PICC LINE which I am starting to develop a truce with, to an J-TUBE through my abdominal wall. What think all of you?

I haven't had either, but I don't know if I would want anything else messing with or being inserted into my GI system when I already had issues in that area. If I had an option and was in a similar situation, I think I would opt for the PICC. Did they put it in the bend of your arm? That would be really annoying...

No about half-way up between there and the shoulder on the inner side. The two tubes with their caps do hang down to the fold. I usually put an ABD under them so they don't rub and bug me and cover it with a slim elastic bandage through the day. And night of course I have the TPN pumping him I just can't unscrew the caps off so my son helps with that but I do 85--90% of it myself. No harder than putting mascara on or curling your eyelashes. Takes me 5 to 8 minutes total, worst part is the keeping things clean and sterile. And remembering to take the bag out of the fridge 3 hours before use so it will warm up, and I put my Vitamins in just before it's started. Got pretty good at drawing the stuff up into the 💉 syringe, 5 ml of each one. Yellow is the fat soluble -smelled just like baby vitamins, the other one is clear, maybe water- soluable? Anyway after they are in you rock the bag like it was a baby, mixes everything up nicely. Oh it will be nice if someday i can eliminate it all, but considering if not I could have stayed malnourished, given myself a heart attack and died. I'm too ornery. to go quietly!👼😈😇😝

I just cannot wait for my appointment on the 7th. I decided to keep a log of each time I get nauseous, starting today, so he has an idea of the frequency. I have no clue if it's the ulcer anymore or what. It's so deterring trying to swallow anything when you KNOW it's going to make you sick. You'd think I would be rail thin by now! lol.

Well it's morning, first trip to BR, took liquid Calcium, made sure C-pap had more distilled Water in chamber, put it back,on, laid back down before stomach started to rebel, and thinking peaceful & calm thoughts. Had good blood draws yesterday so should hear from TPN dietician & pharmacists today And maybe also the scheduler at Bariatric Cl8nic about rescheduling the scoping for next week? Sooner I know, sooner I can make sure I have transport to Columbus. Tummy too uncertain yet to make a shake, try to wait a couple hours, want to keep the calcium in me instead of wearing it. Like 🐭🐺 I am rather untrusting of foods. Since my TPN. is calorie sufficent it's not mandatory I eat but I try for my Protein enriched shake, Miralax enhanced, made with skim milk. May take all day to get the 16 oz down but by nightfall it will be gone and it will be hook-up time. Was worried when I weighed myself at PCP office, seemed the same instead of a loss, but last night my sluggish #2 came and came and came. See I no longer go once a day like I did in days of yore. And 3-5 pounds easily, well it did save me from MoM therapy today. But 3 flushes🚽 to clear out the bowl💩, soft, lump, soft & lump. But I feel considerable lighter if not brighter.
When its been 30 minutes, I'll start on my 2 oz cuppies every 15 minutes of no-cal flavored water. Never thought I would regress back that far but it keeps me from dehydrating the 10 TPN hours off, doesn't it?
And I got compliments that my color is better, I look less stressed, and 2 people on the periphery of my life complimented, actually noticed and complimented me on weight loss. Well I wasn't doing my Weight loss for them, but positive affirmation is NICE, isn't it?😝😋😝❤

Well I made chili before this blasted winter storm set in, tried some of it, up it came. Broths okay, my powdered whey strawberry powder in skim milk, propel Water, but still living off TPN through my PICC line. Last blood draw I am deficent in the Iron, so check surgeons office Monday for recommendations. Maybe Feosol? Everything is cool otherwise. Seem to have a small bm every other day, hope iron supplementation won't send me into Constipation, cause that is a dastardly thing to happen.💩

The surgeon said I can start trying harder foods now but I prefer soft. I did have some steak the other day but two hours later the steak came up! It must have been stuck somewhere and just took a while for my body to realize it. I still pretty much eat only puree/very soft. I don't mind it. Sometimes I do all-broth days.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
