100 lbs in under a year?

This is really important for us newer sleevers to hear because we are trying to gauge our success. I've realized I can't really go by what the surgeon says. At 5'3" and a starting weight of 243, he expected me to be able to lose 30+ pounds in the first six weeks. I'm sticking to plan and made it to 19.6 lost at 6 weeks. That encounter alone left me feeling like I'm failing. But I see that many people lose at a rate similar to mine, who started with similar body weight.

My surgeon tells me I am doing fine and that weight loss will pick up at month 4. But I still don't listen. lol. I can't help but see how much weight other people are losing, especially ones who had surgery in November, too, and be like WTF WHY NOT ME? HMPF.

I know it's hard not comparing your journey to others but consider that things on the internet are often manufactured to look the most appealing. You will never know the whole truth in the background.

Guard your sanity and protect your journey from negative outside influences, even when they masquerade as positivity.

You don't need that in your life.

Honestly, and I know this is not good, but I haven't seen my neuroopthamologist in like... 6 months. He doesn't know I was pulled off the Diamox and will probably be pissed he hasn't been kept in the loop. He doesn't even know I had gastric bypass. But, all he ever did was push me to lose weight so... next time I do see him, maybe he will have something positive to say.

Girl...

Sometimes I need some false hope that it's possible I, too, can lose that 100lbs in under a year. False hope isn't the right word... because it IS possible. I just don't see much negatives on weight being lost on this forum (except people like me right in the beginning complaining about slow weight loss. LOL)

Maybe people are doing totals. I know i do both but having said that.. when i was on a diet before the surgery, I lost 120 in 8 months. Sadly i put it back on hence the surgery, so it is possible especially with the surgery limiting what your intake is. Having said that i was at the gym 7 days a week back then too.

I lost 60lbs in 5 months last year (and gained it all back, hence the surgery, LOL). I think part of my brain feels like I had the surgery so all of it will be instantaneous and that is insane. Overcoming that line of thinking is challenging.

In the darker, realistic recesses of my brain, I anticipate reaching my goal in 18-24 months. But outside of that, I demand it within a year. =p

Don't judge me.

Haha. Ugh. I will go see him in a few months. My leave is wiped out totally from surgery and every month I accrue a day... and every month I have one surgical followup. I am walking a fine line of OMG I HOPE I NEVER GET SICK. I have to search for some random holiday that their office is open but we're closed (government).

I didnt do this as a quick fix. I did this as a deterrent to get off track. Once i am on track i am fine, its the falling off i needed help with. This puts a rule in place for me and doesnt allow me to slip and get off track.

I didn't *intend* to do this as a quick fix, but part of me still can't help but wish it were true.

We're practically the same size. My surgery is on dec 26. Everyone is different. Just take it day by day. That's all we can do. We are doing this to better ourselves.

There are two quotes love in regards to this weight loss journey

"Comparison is thief of joy," and "Men have become the tools of their tools."

This is "your" journey and someone else is on "their" journey... You are not on the same race track, even though you are running the same type of race. Everything about your race and everything about their race is completely different. Don't lose sight of your own journey, race, goals, etc... by comparing yourself to the differences of others.

Where you are today, is not where you will be tomorrow. Don't let someone else's today steal your hope for tomorrow.

To be honest, now that I'm actually losing weight, I'm just thrilled to actually be losing weight, I'll take whatever my body gives me. I didn't realise this until now but because every diet has failed me, including the lapband, a part of me didn't believe the bypass would work either. So I never dared to dream of actually making it to a goal weight. I'm only now daring to let myself think it might be possible.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
