How long until you could tolerate meat?

Everyone is different, but for me (at about 6 weeks post-op) I can eat...

- up to maybe 2 oz-ish of turkey, chicken or fish/shellfish (all attempted in the 4th week post-op)
- up to 1 oz-ish of pork loin (attempted in the 5th week post-op)
- I haven't tried beef yet though (ground beef nor steak) so not sure how well I will tolerate those.

If i don't chew enough or if I eat too fast though, I will get an uncomfortable "fullness" feeling in my chest and I have to just stop and walk around for it to go away. At first it was so bad that I had to throw up :(. But now I am getting better at recognizing when it's about to come on, I can adjust before it gets bad.

Same here- I get this pain in the middle of my chest if I eat too fast or don't chew well enough. Unfortunately I still throw up whenever this happens but it does serve as a good reminder.

Oh man that's tough. Weirdly I found that ground pork was the easiest for me to start with :)

I was never really into eating meat even before surgery so maybe that is also my problem? I've tried pork, chicken, turkey, and beef. After two bites, I start to feel uncomfortable and stop eating. Tofu, Beans, cheese, and Protein Bars seem to go down a lot easier.

tofu was a lifesaver for me in the soft stage, especially when I couldn't tolerate the shakes anymore :)

i am struggling with slow cooker meat. I am almost 5 weeks post op. My dr said i can move on to regular foods and while last night i was struggling to eat the slow cooker chicken.. i managed to eat a burger patty yesterday. ( a whole one over the course of 45 min ) I have no idea how.. i was in a meeting and we had lunch and my boss kinda explained it as like it was eating popcorn and watching a movie.. while i am thankful it happened with meat.. it scares me it could happen with other food.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
