Thats why i said if there were any other issues go with the Bypass.. and if it was weight alone the sleeve should be fine

@the 56 Bypass - I did not have an endoscopy before the sleeve as I didn't have any issues with reflux or gerd that TUMS couldn't take care of. I had a cast Iron stomach! But, not now. I'm just disgusted. I called my insurance company and if I want a second opinion I have to pay for that. They don't cover it. But, that's ok. It would be well worth it.

The thing I do not want to do is more testing. I've been poked and prodded so much I'm done.

I just got back from the surgeon appt, he reviewed the ph monitoring(which showed 5 refluxes till almost my vocal cords) and manometry and we decided for bypass!!! Scared now! Surgery on Wed.

My surgeon said even with my occasional heartburn he wouldn't recommend a sleeve. Almost all his patients have come back complaining of reflux that they never had before...choice was easy...RNY...eventually

I was dead set on the sleeve but checked marked “occasional heartburn” when I seriously felt reflux maybe once a year and I eat a ton of spicy foods. Surgeon had me do a Bravo test for 48 because he would not perform VSG on me under any circumstances if I did have GERD. Low and behold, I had reflux often in the night during sleep when I was unaware. So that had me facing RNY which scared me to death and here I am one week post opting well! Except for the hunger, that part has been the toughest. You will do just fine with the bypass, best of luck!

Bypass is better with reflux, I chose bypass 5 1/2 yrs ago my friend chose sleeve & had bad reflux issues & now doing bypass as revision.

I have been sleeved and due to weight regain I am planning to have a bypass. I didn't loose as much weight as I had anticipated. My weight loss stopped at the six month mark. My sleeve has stretched considerably. I regret not having the bypass. The % of regain is less with the bypass, and from my research, people tend to loose a little more weight. Starting at the 3 year mark I have also had ongoing issues with GERD. Having said all of that, it is a very personal decision and there are quite a few things you need to weight up.

I was sure about getting a VSG but my endoscopy exam has the following: light esophagitis / Barrett's Esophagus - GERD . To be honest I don't feel anything related to it but I read a lot of articles and comments that VSG is not good for who has reflux.

My doctor checked the exam and said would be ok proceed with VSG. I went to another doctor to get a second opinion, he saw my exame and right away said better get a bypass! Next week I will return to my doctor and talk again and might change to bypass.

What you guys think? Anyone had a similar experience?

Addy had bypass specifically for GERD she didn't know she had. VSG not an option and can make worse. See her "Complications" video on our YT channel.

This is good thread! I started the process for getting a sleeve, then the results of an EGD showed that I have Barrett esophagus. Due to this, the surgeon said that the sleeve is no longer an option and that I would get bypass. I was excited about the sleeve, but am worried about the bypass. He said recovery times are similar, but to me, bypass just seems like a more complicated surgery! 😩
