Anyone with leaks?

Recommended Posts

I had a revision from lapband to bypass last December and 3 weeks later had a leak. I was hospitalized for 49 days, on TPN, and horribly sick. Now, almost a year later, I’m finally starting to feel back to normal. I’m 3 pounds from my weight goal.

Its been a really rough year. However, I really can’t say I regret it because I’m so happy with the results!

Leaks are very rare, so yes it’s a possibility, but still very unlikely. Don’t worry, and I wish you the best of luck!

What caused the leak, if anything; and how did you realize you had a leak? I’m scared. I thought I was halfway safe from the leak stage going on week 2. This is frightening!

I had extreme pain in my side and back and nausea. My Dr. said that it just happens sometimes. It has nothing to do with the surgeon or anything I did. I knew I was at a higher risk because it was my second surgery. I was just part of the unlucky percentage that developed a leak.

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear that. What were your symptoms? Did you go home with drains immediately after surgery? What was going on it those 49 days? I’m so happy to hear you are better.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
