Post surgery how does full feel

Recommended Posts

Full feels different now. Too full caused pain almost in between my boobs. I’m having trouble telling the difference between full and being sore from surgery. How does full feel for everyone?

What are you "eating" ? This close to surgery typically folks are on purees only and 1 oz at a time at set intervals. I don't get a real full feeling anymore, I just lose interest in eating. Take your time and don't push things. You REALLY want to focus on healing before focusing on figuring out what your max capacity is.

It definitely doesn’t take much to fill you up after surgery. For me, eating slowly is really important because I don’t get the old cues that I used to get when I was full. So if I eat too fast now, I end up consuming a couple more bites than I should and that leads to 30 minutes of discomfort afterwards. I am learning to pick up on new cues. Now when I feel the urge to burp, or I start to hiccup, I end the meal.

Do you find you can drink liquids all day with no issues? Do you think you can drink to much liquids and stretch our your new stomach without pain?

I never felt like I would stretch my pouch but did feel full early on from Water. I can still feel full from drinking my Protein Shakes too quickly. It is a much different feeling then solid food and passes much quicker as the liquid goes through the pouch pretty easy. With food I got the foamies and threw up (3x's, twice from chicken not chewed enough), no pain, just up and out!

Phew, I figured it was just running through me but wasn't sure and was a little worried.

Good info about chewing. My Dr said only 2 tablespoons of food to start with on pureed diet. .Yikes. Seems like not much but so excited cause im tired of this liquid diet.

Yeah the liquid diet sucks. I was just over one week post-op for Thanksgiving. The day after I had half a spoonful of left over mashed taters and they were soooo good! When you do get to solids, CHEW everything to applesauce consistency - typical advice but you will see what happens if you don't!

I could go for feeling a slight bloat between my boobs, that I could handle, it's the pain, the upchucking and slimeys Precious Pouch produces on solid-er things. but someday I will win the food battle and food really will stay down! Precious is an unrepentant BRAT!

The slimeys you are talking about is that specific to a type of surgery or does everyone experience that?

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
