11 weeks post op and only lost 10 pound

Recommended Posts

So frustrated and depressed. It’s been 11 weeks - first two weeks I lost 9 pound. Went back a month later for check up and lost 1.8 pound. Last two weeks nothing. Dietician told me that I am not eating enough so I tried to eat more and put on two pounds. I see videos on YouTube of other people at 11-12 weeks being 40-60 pounds down and talking about only being able to eat five small bites. I don’t seem to have that restriction at all and could eat a full meal if unwanted but just nothing tastes good anymore. Can’t eat yoghurt or milk as it makes me sick now. Just nothing tastes like anything anymore. I cooked a huge pot of cabbage and chicken broth and basically live in that. But still not losing. Just feel so depressed and that this was such a waste of money and time. And now my hair is falling out in handfuls. Ughhhh

How many calories are you taking in each day? Can you give an example of what you are eating?

First of all, don't compare yourself to other people. Everyone loses differently. A lot of dependent on rest, calories in / calories out, physical exercise, Protein / Water.

I'm 10 weeks post op and down a total of 37 lbs since the day before Preop started and 20lbs from Surgery day. Are you following your diet? Getting enough protein, liquids, sleep each day? I can tell you that if I sleep less than 8 hours I will wake up and have gained weight. Additionally if I don't get my minimum water intake, I gain weight. I eat 4 - 6 small meals per day, up to 800 KCAL per day. The smaller meals help me ensure I get enough protein and keep my fluids easier.

It's not uncommon to stall on weight loss after WLS as your body becomes accustomed to the changes.

What surgery? When was your surgery? What was your starting/pre-op weight? What's your height? Are you tracking your Water intake and is that intake upwards of 128oz? Is it over 64oz? Are you tracking your food intake? Are you exercising?

*DO NOT* compare yourself to others, there isn't anyone else in the world that will gain or lose the exact same way as you do. So, don't stress over things you can't control, focus on what you CAN control and measure!

What Matt said. Don’t compare yourself to others. You don’t know if they had more or less than you to lose. Focus on your own percentage lost and not lbs. Figure out what works for you and stick with it.

I discovered early on that I likely have a really low BMR- which means for me to see results, I *need* to do things to increase my metabolism- like working out. Before figuring this out, I was struggling pretty bad with slow weight loss. But yeah- trial and error for sure.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
