I just got approved for my surgery. I’m excited and my sister thinks that I will be completely flab and will be totally hideous! But I wonder what everyone does during swimsuit season. I have a family cruise planned for April and will probably have my surgery this October. So am I worrying about nothing?

You're going to rock that swimming suit and make your sister green with envy. Embrace the positive changes that are coming your way. You'll be a much slimmer you and you'll feel more confident. Loose skin is part of the weight loss journey, but that's something that can be addressed at a later time and is much less of an issue than being obese.

Loose skin is likely to happen. The more weight you have to lose, and where you carry your weight coupled with genetics will play a role in how much will be there.

In six or seven months, you may not have a terribly large amount. I noticed more of my skin wrinkling up once I lost over 120 pounds.

If you are confident enough to wear a swimsuit now, you will be in April. You will be looking and feeling so much better you will not believe it!

Maybe your sister is jealous of you taking control of your health? Siblings can be strange...

Your sister sounds like a jealous jerk.

Hideous only,in her small mind, I think you are, will be and always were a prettier person inside, now you will have a chance to have the outside match. Sissy sounds petty, jealous and without YOUR best interests in mind. SHAME SHE NEVER GREW UP AND. COULD GIVE YOU,HONOR! Well for what it is worth, we do and applaud you for seeking to make life better!👉😝👈💕

I am almost 5 months out and down almost 70 pounds from my highest weight ever. I do have a ways to go and I do see some loose skin developing but that is fine with me. I feel 100% wonderful and would not hesitate to wear a swimsuit on a cruise. The thing about a cruise is that you see all types of bodies and no one really cares. Besides, you can always wear a cute coverup over you suit if you are uncomfortable.

I would ignore your sister and focus on yourself. Exercise and hydration are your friends moving through this process. Look at Joyce Vedral's website for some awesome free weight exercise program that focus on women.

Tell your sister to kick rocks. You'll look as good as you feel. Don't worry about swimsuit just know that you'll be able to enjoy the trip a hell of a lot more than you would if you didn't lose the weight.

While all of these positive affirmations are nice and encouraging, I hold a different view.

After losing 135lbs, I'm very flabby. My arms, thighs, and tummy are wrinkled and crepe-y. When I go the the beach now, I wear the same thing as when I was obese. Long pants and a long sleeved shirt.

I was obese for many, many years. My genetics and situation are such that my skin didn't bounce back whatsoever. It's a challenge that I knew would come with massive weight loss, but it is discouraging, nonetheless.

However, your experience will be different than mine. Just keep in mind, hanging skin may likely be an issue, and if that will bother you, then start saving for plastics now.

I wish you the absolute best in achieving your goals!

Yes that is your view and you're entitled to it, but why is it necessary to bring people down to the level of your bummer and personal self-hatred/self-esteem issue with your body? Why discourage someone just at the start of their journey?

Is it the truth? For you. 100%. For her? Maybe not? A lot of stuff goes into that equation and I have personally seen some peeps here and in the FB group who look phenomenal. Like where the f**k did all their extra skin go?! Phenomenal. So there's that too.

Honestly? I'm a sharpei. A f**king sharpei. But I am a sharpei that can now walk for an hour, wear sleeveless shirts, shorts, and clothing appropriate apparel in tune with the seasons and anyone who dares shame me will get the ginormous one finger salute and be invited to kiss my lily white ass. I FEEL alive again. I FEEL sooooo much less pain. I don't have money for plastics, so the loose skin will be around forevs no doubt...but I would NEVER let the threat of crepe y skin keep me from a shot at being normal weight.

I said that I was discouraged by my loose skin, yes. I also said her experience would not be the same as mine.

This board is to discuss the experiences of WLS and those that follow the procedure. If you took my post to be "bringing her down" then I suggest you re-read it.

This is specifically what set the tone for your post and why I read it as very discouraging to someone who was actively looking for support.

I did not take it as discouraging at all ladies! I appreciate the hard honest truth!

Did you all work our religiously on your journey? Muscle tone? Does any of that make a difference?

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
