Post op pain - be honest

Recommended Posts

I have more pain with my strictu4es and ulcers than I ever did post-SURGERY. Sometimes I do like efflurage on my upper abdomen to try to get the pouch to relax and stop clenching. Good, surgery, wonderful beginning to recovery, then this happens and I would like to give, this pain to the political candidates that won without my vote! Taint no fun, my friend, 3rd endoscopy and they haven't fixed it YET! And here I sit because they are running behind! Procedure scheduled 15 minutes ago!😭😪😷😪😭

When I first woke up, I vaguely remember someone saying "Jacqui, are you in pain?" to which I helpfully replied "Eggggghhhhhhhhh. DDDD:" Because YES I WAS. Then it was more pain meds and blissful sleep. The pain was pretty bad, but I'm a weenie hut Jr and I knew it was gonna be bad.

the issue for me was I couldn't keep anything down. Water, ice, broth, nothing. so every time I would try and throw up, I would almost pass out because it HURT.

But, even with it hurting the way it did, I have to say that I would do it all over again. It's temporary, and it'll all be worth it in the end.

As most have said. Everyone is different. However I had no pain, just sore and uncomfortable. From
1-10 my pain was about a 2/3 if that.

This a good question! The pain what I’m worried about too . I can’t take the all pain meds. When I had other surgeries it always made sick to my stomach.

The pain is manageable. I made 3 days of hydrocodone stretch 6 days. Since then I used liquid Tylenol day 7 through 9. I am 10 days post op today, no pain meds. Incision pain is not bad until you move in a position that makes the large incision uncomfortable.

Gas pain was by far the worst. Start taking Miralax when you get home. The first BM was a bad experience for me. I should have been taking miralax starting on day 2. Warm showers help.

It gets easier each day. The first 3 days were the most uncomfortable.

I was really lucky, I felt a bit miserable the next day and asked the nurses for something stronger than the paracetamol they were giving me. No idea what they gave me but it worked.
Had no gas pain (didn't have it with my lapband either). I took some anti - nausea drugs I think but other than that it was just paracetamol when I was out of hospital.
I did take notice of what I'd read here on the forums, and made sure I got up and walked around. Did the physio exercises they have me and blew and sucked the breathing thing they gave me too. But I've had WAY worse pain than this. (kidney stones, infected dying fibroids, blocked urethra) so this was nothing by comparison.

Hi all,
This has probably been asked a gazillion times. Just wondering how everyone did with the post op pain. I'm not too worried about the gas pain but more the incision pain. I'm not a fan of pain meds, they make me vomit.....
How did everyone do? The good, the bad and the ugly.....
Also, I'm doing this alone. Will I be okay by myself or should I aske the surgeon to keep me an extra day.
Thanks
I'm a total wuss. The pain 2 days after surgery was pretty bad. I went in thinking itll be nothing...it was something! I think going in with the expectation that you'll be uncomfortable would be better than going in thinking it will be a breeze, like I did. A week later I was almost totally back to normal. Just a little soreness in my belly. My doctor gave me norco for the first week mainly to help me sleep :D

I had pain.....I had the single incision vsg surgery and getting up to walk every hour was AWFUL. I went too long with out pain meds after I was taken off the iv dilaudid, and that sensitized me to pain and it was bad for about 3 days. Then it was bearable.....those first few days tho we’re pretty painful, even on pain meds.

I was same day outpatient surgery. That day (Thurs) and the following (Fri) I stayed medicated with the meds sent home. Saturday I was at my kids soccer and baseball games all day and Sunday was a repeat with multiple games all over town. I tired more easily but pain wasn't unbearable at all.

This is Smurf's wife... they wheeled him back at 10 after 7 this morning, and he was discharged before 11:45am. He has some pretty bad upper back pain. He said it feels like he needs to crack his back, but can't. Walking and hydrocodone helped. LOL (When I asked if he had buyer's remorse he said, "yes, i'd rather just stay fat!") The incision sites are a little tender, and LOTS of belching, but otherwise i think he's okay. If I had to guess he'll be feeling more like himself in 2 or 3 days max.

Tell him to hang in there. Should hopefully be better soon.

I had single incision vsg surgery as well. I had no gas or heartburn pain at all. I had some pain and stayed 2 nights in the hospital. They had me on a Dilaudid pump which did nothing for me, then switched me to an Oxycodne drip because I was in pain. They sent me home with 20 5 mg pills of Oxycodone which is a tiny bit more Oxycodone than a tic tac and I didn't finish them. I also had a cold so the first week was pretty miserable, no pain after that, just being careful not to injure myself.

Totally worth it and totally forgotten about now!

Surgery was a walk in the park for me. I didn't feel any pain or nausea, didn't need any pain or nausea meds, was walking on day 1 and totally independent.

My issue though was that I had a cough before surgery and that developed into acute bronchitis and asthma which screwed me...I had to stay an extra couple of days because my oxygen level were too low in the 79% range, my lungs were wheezing and squeaking and my cough was so violent that I couldn't bare the pain on my lungs. I am 17 days post-op and only getting rid of the bronchitis now 🙌.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
