Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I'm Anna and I'm 27 years old. I had my surgery august 28th 2018 and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm new here I just found this app today and glad I did becuase I could use all the support I can get. Im on liquids still and having a bit of a mental struggle with still wanting to eat and seeing everyone around me eating. Did anyone else feel this way?

It's pretty common. You're dealing with 'head hunger'. You're not really hungry, but your body is used to eating more. It will get easier. The liquid and soft/foods stages are super-important to give your sleeve time to heal, which it needs!

Focus on getting in your Water and Protein, and try to do some things you wouldn't normally do. Go for a walk outside, short hike, swim, etc. Now is the best time to make those changes because you want to break from the normal schedule....and this is the time to do it!

Best of luck!

I’m scheduled for sleeve surgery tomorrow morning. I’m excited and nervous. Are there any pieces of advice you have that might help me? I feel like I need all the info I can get!

i'm 5 days ahead of you. I will say it does get better weekly. I still cook for the family and the smells really are mental for me. when they get fast food its hard but the more I'm exposed it seems to get better. I have head hunger all the time. luckily, my stomach doesn't allow it.

you're not alone!

Hi! I got my surgery on August 17th. I miss food so much and it is very hard for me. I get jealous and I eat through my bf by asking him how it is 😂😂 I definitely have a food addiction. It made me really upset right after surgery because I still had my cravings. Luckily my belly can barely handle meat. I’m scared to try anything else. Therefore I just force myself to be good.

I do the same thing i eat through my husband and ill even make him things that I want to eat but can't lol I probably should stop doing that . its definitely hard letting go of food . I'm also still on all liquids so it's been extra tough. I hope it gets a little easier when i can actually eat food

Hey Anna! I also had my surgery on the 28th.

So right now according to my doc's protocol I'm eating pureed foods. In contrast to you (i.e., very disciplined), I decided to spend yesterday and today testing what I can blend and keep down like some sort of mad scientist. Let's just say when they tell you to avoid heavy cream, it's best to listen.

We will all be able to eat some of those foods on occasion and in moderation in due time. One thing I've been doing is keeping a running list of things I am craving in a document. It's really interesting to see the patterns emerging, what kinds of food I'm thinking about and why. Is it nostalgia? Am I just bored of the Soup? Is there a temporary substitute for a particular flavor? Also something about writing these things down in a list and filing it away for later relieves me of the feeling that I have to have these things right now and clears my mind of those thoughts.

Good luck!

You guys are going to find that so many of these foods you crave will be HUGE letdowns. Too sweet. Too salty. Too rich. Too...whatever. Just wait. It’s actually exciting to find the things you no longer really need anymore. Or the things that are enough in just ONE bite. It’s pretty cool.

Still looking forward to moving forward. Maybe after my Exploratory EGD on Friday October 12th.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
