Will I be too sore for a demo lesson (interview) 3 days after surgery???

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have a job interview next week for a teaching position. You usually need to do a practice lesson so they can see how you teach. Will I be able to teach for 30 minutes after my surgery? Surgery is on Friday! They wanted the demo on Monday, but I really don’t think that is a good idea. What do you think??????

I'm pre-op, but I've done a lot of reading. Still, take my opinion with the appropriate amount of salt.

You may not be in that much pain, but you're going to be pretty tired as your body heals and adjusts to a significantly decreased calorie intake. You won't be able to drink as much liquid as you ideally should, yet. It's even possible that your throat will be a little scratchy from the breathing tube, still. (Most people aren't that scratchy on day 3, but still.)

If you can push it back another week (or better: get it to a full 2 weeks out from your surgery date, if possible), I think you'll feel a lot better, both physically and emotionally, about the whole thing.

There isn't anyway 3 days after surgery I would have been able to do more than some light walking. I couldn't imagine being required to stand, move, talk, think, and perform for an interview process 3 days post op.... I wouldn't have been able to do it.

I can’t see that being possible. I took two full weeks off from work and wish I had taken more. Five weeks out I still feel the need for a nap Due to the exhaustion.

Ditto what everyone else said. While it may be possible to drag yourself to the interview and teach, you won't be at your best. If you really want the job, ask them to reschedule and give yourself a couple weeks at least. Hopefully they will be understanding.

I had surgery on Thursday and went to church on Sunday and work on Monday. (I have a desk job.)

I was tired but made it ok.

I could have done it. I had a very easy recovery. But I agree, you won't be at your best.

I could have done it after bariatrixc surgery, but not after gallbladder surgery. Some people are vice versa. It all depends! But if you can push it out, it would probably be better.

I was miserable for about a week after surgery and had very little energy. I couldn't have done it. I would also recommend postponing it if possible.

No way that I could have done that

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
