No apologies needed -- I'm always interested!

In that case….here is today’s breakfast/lunch/first meal of day:

Another Salad!

I clearly misjudged the size of bowl needed to hold it.

Romaine, broccollini, carrots, graviera cheese, prosciutto, beef Jerky, pineapple, anchovies, leftover cottage cheese & pumpkins seeds : 381 calories.

i have zero intention of eating all of it (its bigger than it looks!)…we’ll see how far we get.

salad and goat cheese Mac and cheese (that I found on clearance for $.50 a box!). Most of my kids had their salad with Mac and cheese and baked chicken legs (one is just Mac and a side of cucumbers 🤷‍♀️).

Anyway, I was expecting more from the Mac and cheese in terms of flavor. It was just meh.

Also, I had a BUNCH of Thai basil so I made some Thai inspired pesto with the basil, Sriracha, peanut oil, pecans, olive oil, a smidge of toasted sesame oil, and garlic. I’m currently marinating sliced eggplant in it to roast tomorrow night for dinner along with some buttermilk marinated chicken for the kids. I also have plans for a sun dried Tomato, basil, and feta frittata for my lunches for work this week.

Im gonna say it: my Mr. is the master of dough! He makes AWESOME homemade pizzas, breads, pastas and yes, i am loathe to admit, his pie crusts are SOMETIMES better than mine.

This afternoon he whipped up a couple loaves of his oft-requested, and always-devoured, Japanese Milk bread. Sided with some charcuterie stuff, and wine, it was a lovey afternoon snack with the fam.

I had 40g of bread with a bit of truffle butter i made from shaking a jar of cream yesterday (got my inner pilgrim on! 😂), and a glass of wine.

140 cals for the bread and butter.

170 cals for the wine.

Faux tonkotsu ramen (vegetarian)

Not mine (I did make it) but I wanted to share because it’s not often I accurately track a food I’m not eating.

This seems like a lot of calories to me but I’m sure it’s less than normal because it’s homemade

My Hubby decided on steak and lobster for the holiday with grilled onions and corn on the cob. I barely ate a quarter of that but I plan to go back to it at snack time and for lunch tomorrow.

I have a question...and it is NOT meant to be judgemental, but instead comes from a true place of knowledge seeking. I'm relatively new to this whole eating actual food post-op thing.

Do you all expect to eat all the food you put on your plate? I see a lot of plates with a lot of food on them in the "after" photos...or a statement like "I ate a quarter of that" (as in post above...again, not judging, just using you as an example ShoppGirl!). I guess I'm just not sure why you'd put all that food on the plate if you didn't expect to eat it. *I* know I'd try if I had it there (solid member of the clean plate club here!). But...my little plate looks so pathetic with just 3oz of food on it, I know I'd *like* to put more on it!

Thanks All!

I am a member of the clean your plate club too so I get the question. My hubby made that plate for me though. He has no clue what I can eat or would be in the mood for so he just made a little sample platter of what he had. When it’s just a little over what I should eat I have been tempted to force it in but not when it’s way too much. I feel better knowing that there is enough food to make another meal or two out of it.

I was never a member of the clean your plate club, so I could see why taking portions you don’t finish might be odd.

There are some *hackd* that can be use early on to not attract attention to our food habits. Some of us choose to take *normal looking* portions to disguise amounts eaten. I did this every time I ate with someone who didn’t know I had WLS. I could blame not finishing the food on anything if questioned.

There is also the element of not always knowing exactly how much you will eat from meal to meal. I try to estimate what I will eat and stick close to that but there are variables I can’t always predict.

And if you’re at a restaurant, forget about it! You’re getting a full size meal unless you make special requests to have only some of your meal brought out and the rest to go.

I guess the reason I wanted to start a thread like this was because it would show different eating styles/patterns. Hopefully someone reading it could see their specific concern (am I eating too much/little) and could find proof that others might experience the same thing.

*I also enjoy looking at food and was curious when the mythical fullness began*

How do you like to serve your meals? Please add pics ❤️

Haven’t made these in a few months but my nieces came over for a late morning tea so mini frittatas seemed a good option. These are tuna & sweet potato. They ate two each & took the recipe so a win I think.

Hi @FutureSkyDiver. As you progress you’ll be able to eat more (close or equal to a recommended serving size in maintenance) which is why some of the pxts posted seem to be of larger serves than you’d expect. The perspective can be off in the pxts too sometimes because there’s nothing to show comparative size or if they’re close-ups. A lot of us still serve our food on side plates & in smaller bowls so the servings look larger than they actually are. Also if the food is cut into small bite sized portions it can seem to take up more space on the plate. As @GreenTealael said there are times you just don’t feel like eating all the meal you’ve plated - just not hungry or you get full more quickly. Grazing on the leftovers later or saving it for another meal is not uncommon.

I used to be a member of the clean plate club and now I prefer the clear conscious club. It’s taken a long time (and some therapy) to realize that leaving food behind isn’t disrespectful or that the food was bad (most of the time it’s not even when I cook. 😂)

Sure, I make some questionable food choices but I’m human and sometimes I want ice cream for dinner because well, I can. Restriction means it now lasts a month for the pint instead of one mindless binge with other food on top of it. I’m also still trying to figure out what foods do what with my restriction, even a year out from VSG to RNY revision as I’ve also had some small intestine removed that tried to kill me.

Plus, I like being able to see different foods I may not have tried or find some amazing new recipes from everyone who posts.

First, the faster you can revoke your membership from the Clean Plate Club, the better. Both your scale and your physical comfort will thank you in the long run.

As to your question, “Do you expect to eat everything on your plate?”, for me, generally, yes…just usually not all at the same time. I’ll fix myself - or order - something (noted, by now I already know it will be more than i’ll eat cuz my eyes are almost always hungrier than my stomach) and I’ll just eat until I’ll satisfied and put the rest away to eat later. It may take another meal or maybe four, lol, but it usually gets eaten. And if not by me, then by someone else in the fam, so that helps.

Speaking of eating all one’s food, here is what I just ate. A spinach and feta pastry i bought at a coffee shop because its after 4pm and realized i haven’t eaten yet (a normal situation i find myself in when im out and about doing boring errands) and it was all they had that slightly interested me.

im guessing (and logging) 275 calories.

Ate it all (guess i was really hungry!)

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
