unprotected sex a week before surgery??

Recommended Posts

personal post, but whatever, we’re all adults here.

my surgery is on 7/25, but on 7/19 i had unprotected sex. i didn’t really think anything of it, but my friends have me paranoid. i have PCOS and just stopped my birth control a month ago (in prep for surgery- i’ll be continuing it after) so i really didn’t think anything of being unprotected and he did not finish inside me, but now they have me all nervous. do you guys think i’ll be okay???

Really no way to know but generally with PCOS ovulation is not happening plus after getting off birth control it takes a few cycles to ovulate so chances are you are not pregnant if that is the concern. Plus, the odds of conception after 1 episode of unprotected sex are pretty low. But if you are really concerned you can postpone the surgery and take a test in a couple of weeks. T

Hope it all works out for you.

Well I do hope you don't get pregnant but a old joke from my era.
Question: What do you call a man who fails to use condoms?
Answer: Daddy!

You had to get off birth control in preparation for surgery?? My surgeon stresses the importance of birth control/protection specifically to ensure that we don’t get pregnant too soon after surgery. Anyways, I fell pregnant with my third child after being infertile due to PCOS for years IMMEDIATELY after I quit taking my birth control. That drop in hormones stimulates ovulation. The fact that he didn’t “finish” in you would be the only reason I wouldn’t be too concerned. But it’s certainly still possible! I mean really the only thing you can do is take your chances and go ahead and have the surgery as planned or put it off until you can get a reliable negative pregnancy test result. It’s going to be a judgement call for you.

yeah, because of the risk of blood clots (i’m on the pill). i mean honestly whatever happens happens, i’m going to get my surgery and hope all is well. i’m only 22 anyways, made a dumb mistake that won’t happen again

I don't believe its effective only by weight, but when was your cycle set to begin? Its only effective for a window and under certain circumstances. VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167

I did some quick research and there are increased risks, but more importantly, you will need to take a pregnancy test prior to surgery. That test may or may not detect pregnancy this early. Wouldn't you rather see your OBGYN and get there perspective? Plus... Pregnancy may not be the only risk since you are PCOS and ya know unprotected sex..

Most hospitals do a urine test when they admit you to pick up exactly this. I'll defer to the medical professionals on this board for verification, but every single time I've gone to the hospital for a procedure they've made me pee in a cup. It's always been for a pregnancy test.

If it comes back positive they won't operate. Pretty straightforward and other than telling them you had unprotected sex, you don't really need to do anything here.

(...and here of course is the unsolicited advice of DAMN, if you're only on a one-month birth control break which I assume means you don't want to be pregnant, why play Russian roulette like that? Condom! Condom condom condom! Spermicide! Condom! Diaphragm! Condom! Ack!)

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
