How much does luck figure in? The fact that my body responded beautifully to this surgery and that I can eat the diet I prefer and lose weight...is not lost on me.
How much was strategy, and how much was luck?
I'm not saying I don't work extremely hard. But there's a curve in all results. How much of it is pure luck of the draw that I ended up on this side of the curve?
Which factor is more important to long term success? Diet, exercise, supportive home environment, work ethic, emotional stability, skill of surgeon, mental health?
it's an interesting little puzzle....and the people who make the noise are very rarely representative of the whole.
Self reported information has a huge bias.
Oh I think luck is definitely a factor in success... I think one day we will have a lot more science and be able to figure out what works for whom and tailor diet and surgery type (or no surgery) based on scientific principle, but for now luck is a huge part of it. I consider myself VERY lucky to have responded so well to my surgery and diet.

BUT I feel like luck would be evenly represented among posters here and lurkers here and the general population. Cuz, ya know, it’s luck!

Trying to figure out population characteristics and chance events are usually controlled for across different populations and selection groups. Yeah I was a statistics minor.
Honestly, I never about there being real failure rate for people who follow the rules provided. Is that what is being suggested?

Not sure if there is a point here but I believe every person should love the way they look no matter what but that is not always as easy as it sounds. If you are happy with yourself and your appearance that is all that matters and you should stay right where you are. For me, weight loss is much more about health and enjoying my life than how I look. I want to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible and I am amazed this is happening to me at age 60.

Creekimp13 is much more than strong opinions--she IS a bully.. She is convinced that her way is the only right way and constantly criticizes and denigrates others who do not eat like her calling them stupid names and predicting their failure. She has insulted and denigrated me and my profession while showing her self-satisfied ignorance and denigrated and insulted others on here, stating their diet caused all their health problems and saying we are all going to need a kidney transplant because we don't eat a crapload of carbs. I am not a "ketoevangelist" and have researched the difference between the various diets....one size does not fit all.

Someone who used stats of a professional male bodybuilder to justify her overweight BMI is just ridiculous. I do not care what she says she weighs or what she says she eats but there is no reason to be so nasty about it. I have not encountered anyone else on here that is so dismissive and disrespectful of others.

Great she has a couple of buddies to jump in here and defend her:rolleyes:

Does anyone know how to report this? I know this type of name calling is against the TOS even in the rants and raves. @alexbreacher ?

You’re as much a bully as Creekimp. Do you ever think for yourself, or do you simply follow Creekimp around and applaud everything she says? We had girls like you two in high school.

Sometimes privilege prevents people from grasping the weight of their words.

But yeah, yikes. 😯

It came up in trending topics for me. There do seem to be a lot of very hard opinions on what the right way to do things.

I’m just going to try to follow my program’s instruction for as long as I can. I know “how to eat healthy”, I just never chose to do it- so yeah- gotta work on that before I get to that stage!

I really wish there were more VETS around to give us the real scoop on regain. I really want hear from people who have experience in the matter, I started a thread for it months ago, not one person responded that I could tell. I think they are all gone...

Although I believe that Rants and Raves can and should be more blunt than the rest of this forum. I don't think there is any place for mocking social movements that sprang from issues as serious as BLM did. And let's be honest, any of the variations of BLM have at least some degree of racism (being generous).

Maybe just for rants and raves a safe guard message could be placed as you hit submit, to confirm that you understand the policies and violations will result in xyz ... A reminder to give the person a chance to rephrase things before it goes too far

That's because every new wave of patients & forum members brings a deluge of fragile or hostile people who don't want information and talk from members with experience. They want validation, *hugs*, and immediate results/responses.

In my opinion as an older member, you can only take the verbal lashing and emotional outbursts for so long before you just don't care about helping anyone. Escalating and explosive replies with the sole purpose of shocking or generating more knee jerk responses has become the norm across all social media as long as it is done in the name of social justice.

I can say that I have seen so many of these people come on here and spout off, gather a group of sycophants, then fade away because they have wasted the honeymoon phase and never established their own healthy habits. They never reach goal, they develop a transfer addiction, they gain it all back, they develop a new eating disorder... I've pretty much seen it all. Why should a vet invest time to help people when they don't want to be helped?

Yep - how many threads have been started by post-ops a couple of weeks out wanting to know when they can start drinking alcohol again (as if their program didn't give them some instructions in that area)? Then it's just "you're a bunch of nannies....)

Some of us want it, and I'm not talking one on one time, that's preposterous.

But if there was a place where just info could be left, like a vets hand book , where vets write about their experiences, it would be helpful.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
