Morning sickness aka all day sickness

Recommended Posts

I am 9 months post op and 8 weeks pregnant, morning sickness is killing me all day. Drinking Water makes it worse. Does anyone have any tips? Having the smaller stomach definitely isn’t helping 😞

Wow. It's been a while since I've experienced morning sickness. I have four adult children. The trigger for me was smell. That really escalated by nausea. Because meds are something I wouldn't risk taking (particularly at this crucial, early-developing stage of pregnancy), I remember just having to live with it for a while. sleeping was a way to not deal with the sickness.

Are there any other liquids that you can tolerate? Dairy tends to add to nausea. What about soy milk? Coconut or almond milk? Sip on Decaf hot tea.

Nausea during pregnancy is, unfortunately, one of those leftover things from evolution. In order to ensure the survival of new life, we were warned about eating bad or poisonous food by making sure we had heightened senses for smell and taste. Hormonal levels come into play as well. It's a lousy scenario, but one that millions and billions of women have had to endure. I know that's no comfort for you as an individual.

Is this your first baby?

Saltine crackers. Ginger ale works for some. That can last for a while, though some women just experience it for the 1st trimester. I had “morning” sickness at any given time of the day up until I was like 7 1/2 months. Water made me nauseous too.

@courtb86 I would try to chew on ginger. Yes, raw ginger. Just peel the skin and chew or suck on it, put it in Decaf hot tea. It's spicy but it's natural and tends to rid nausea almost instantly. Did for me in my first trimester. I wouldn't drink any carbonated bevs as this point just because it isn't a good idea for a bariatric patient. Good luck to you and your baby.:)

Yeah I don’t drink soda so ginger ale is out of the question. I’m just so nervous I won’t be able to gain weight during the pregnancy because I feel like crap and I eat small meals anyway

@courtb86 reach out to your Dr.s (bariatric surgeon and nutritionist) because they can give you tips and get you on a diet regiment specifically for you and baby as a bariatric patient. Along with food, drink and Vitamin supplements, you should be fine. There are other moms out there that are in the same boat as you! ;)

I am in the same boat. 7 wls and nothing helps but sleeping all day. I'm even nauseated while sleep. I tried toasted bread and plain mashed potatoes but unfortunately while laying down on my side was the only way I can tolerate it. Dizziness is also and issue maybe from dehydration. Try Gatorade or Powerade ZERO, I'm still trying to find something that works also.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
