Hello all. Was thinking about getting a Vitamix hoping it will be useful for post op diet.
Anybody have one and if so are you getting your moneys worth from it? Thank you!

I am still pre op, but I love mine. I think it will come in very handy. I love the fact that u can make Soups that r hot and ready to go just using it.

Yes, that was what I was thinking too! It would be good for purée for sure!

I have a Ninja, and it works great. I find the Vitamix to be overpriced.

The Ninja is a fine blender, we have one that used to get used a lot. However, once we bought a Vitamix, we were amazed at the difference. I would liken it to a comparison of a Sunbeam mixer and a classic KitchenAid. There is nothing wrong with either, but the KitchenAid & Vitamix will literally last a lifetime. If you look at it from that perspective and amortize the cost over 20 years, they are quite affordable.

We don't make smoothies that much anymore, but the Vitamix still gets used at least twice a week by my wife of my kids.

The Ninja however excels at making single serving blended food. Small batches of hummus or frozen drinks.

I can't say enough about my Vitamix. I made so many Soups with it, and their recipes online are delicious. I highly recommend the Harvest Cheddar. You won't regret it, as long as you commit to using it. The prep is little and the blend/cook time is so short.

It just comes down to what your needs are. I haven't run into a situation yet where I felt I needed something other than my Ninja or a stick blender.

Oh man, I wish I would have bought a stick blender years ago. I always thought they were gimmicky. After the first time using a cheapy one given to my wife by my mother, I am sold on them. Gravies/sauces that need to be smooth - the wand is indispensable!

Do you have any recommendations on a good stick blender?

Funny, I have the same one for years, like maybe 15? it's just a basic Black and Decker model.

How funny, that is what my mom gave us; an old black & decker. I just assumed they were cheapies. Maybe they are better made than I had thought.

I have an immersion blender and an industrial Oster Blender.

As powerful as the Oster is, the immersion blender was way more useful Post op. The hand piece stayed plugged in and blade attachment was just cleaned after use.

I’m about 10 days post op and have definitely used my immersion blender more than my vitamix. Unless you are making large batches of Soups or smoothies, the immersion blender is way more useful for emuslifying soups, etc. That said, I have used my vitamix to puree stews and fruit with stevia (so I can add some lower cal sweetness to plain nonfat greek yogurt). I freeze the puree in silicone ramekins so I can store them in a zip lock bag and take out small portions. Hope that helps!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
