Sit down jobs. Oh no!!! HELP

Recommended Posts

Please help me out! I work, not 1 but 2 sit down jobs!! Both have sot to stand desks so I can stand up but how am I to get exercise in? My mornings consist of getting my sisters kids where they need to go, then when I get off work its 8pm and I'm exhausted! That's just the first job. My second is overnight

I just got an exersice ball hoping that will help.

Do you get breaks at work? Are there stairs, if there are put on your sneakers and do a couple flights of stairs. Park the farthest away at your work. Walk the first 10 minutes of your lunch break.

I park far away from work. I walk on my lunch break for at least 30 minutes. My Fitbit reminds me to get steps in every hour, and I never make an excuse. I also volunteer to do just about anything that gets me away from my office.

My first job is from home. I climb the steps all day on breaks, lunch etc. I can't park far away from that one. Lol. My second job I park on the street and the building is not in the best neighborhood. It's on the 7th floor, so I could do the stairs until I'm tuckered out, (Fibro, knee, breathing) then take the elevator. However I dont get a lunch there.

I have a stand up desk and stand on a pillow - it's made of the same material as yoga balls and one can inflate it. Oh my does it work my legs. I do not know if it helps, but for me it is positive both as extra activity but also to spare my hips/knees from the hard floor.

Get yourself one of those small under desk exercise "bikes" or "steppers", if you really are strapped to the desk for that long, there are also plenty of other things you can do to get some exercise in! Just googled "Desk exercises" or "chair exercises"

I have a sedentary job as well and have been stumped when figuring out how to work in more activity. I park further away, as suggested and have taken the stairs, but I'm still sitting at a desk for 6+ hours.

I recently found a program I downloaded to my work computer called Big Stretch Reminder. I have it set to go off every hour, so I can do a quick walk around our office and then get back to work. I love it so far. It's nice to step away from my desk for a while.

Stand with v your hand on the edge of your desk and do,knee bends. If nobody happens to be around. march in pkace, do some leg lunges, make your body do the work. If there is something around like a 5 pound can of coffee lift it. Improvise if you can.

Nice to have a standup desk! I have a sedentary job in IT. I get up at zero dark thirty and SSS (Do my bathroom duties). Then I head out to work stopping at the gym to get my blood flowing. I used to love basketball and spent much of my youth playing basketball, volleyball and tennis. I have renewed my love of basketball by checking out a basketball every morning. Then I dribble the ball a few times around the court and practice shooting for a minimum of 20-30 minutes. I finish with weight machines and towel heavily to minimize wet under garments. Change my under garments as needed and go to work. When I am home, I try to stay off the couch and do yard work, cleaning, ironing, cooking and housework. I try to keep in motion most of the time to make up for the sedentary job I have. I also am a Nintendo Wii fanatic, which I picked up doing rehab for my knee surgeries. You can buy a used Wii online for $40 and used games cheap. The Wii exercise will have you sweating good if done properly and builds bonds with your children. (Sitting on the couch doing Wii is no Bueno) I try to walk around a couple of minutes every hour at work. My point is I try to make moving fun as that is a key to success IMHO. You have to give yourself credit for housework, moving and all the activity you do that gets your heart rate up. I also document food, exercise and activity in a calorie counting myfitnesspal program.

That sounds interesting. What is it called and who makes it, please?

Hi you, it is a round pillow like one of these: https://www.google.no/search?biw=1536&bih=732&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=ZHRDW56eFIS4swHFnaaABQ&q=balansepute&oq=balansepute&gs_l=img.3...4465.6813.0.6981.11.11.0.0.0.0.120.672.5j2.7.0....0...1c.1.64.img..4.6.586...0j35i39k1.0.VBZColrXW2k#imgrc=aTmUP-TgnPSEEM:

Many pillows like these will probably do the same job. I stand on it barefoot (socks on/shoes of) since my job is really casual :-D

Great, thanks for taking the time to google it for me. I remember using these in physical therapy. Gotta get one!

I feel for you as I am stuck at my desk most of the day as well. I have my stand-up desk which I try to keep up at least half the day and I've started doing leg lifts while typing. I have to get back to using MyFitnessPall to track intake of food. I also use a fitbit but it is only set to 6000 steps a day so I should probably ramp that up.

When I was pre-op and had trouble getting out to exercise due to some other health issues, I used dvds and downloads from chairdancingfitness.com (video samples link) to help me get a few minutes in at work and I still use her workouts. I downloaded a couple of her videos from my Amazon.com account so I have them accessible on my phone. I also purchased some of her slimbell weights (3 and 2 pounds) so I keep them at my desk and either mix/match weights depending on the exercise. I emailed their customer service a lot and got to know them so they gave me a discount code that doesn't expire that is 25% off products - MYPAL25

Hope this helps. We're all in this together!

Hello, I am a professional web designer, it means spending a lot of time in front of the computer. Often it hurts my back and I have pain in my neck. But every morning I practice and I stretch out in my office. Also You may need to consider using stand up desk or some aids for office sitting...I hope these advices were helpful...

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
