I’m getting a bypass despite the fact I have a sleeve done

@toodlerue I have to remind myself “Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels!”. It’s my new mantra.

Love it, toodlerue!

Have you asked your doctor to prescribe you metformin. Its what us diabetics take to curb those sugar cravings.

Since i have been on it. I have had no cravings and it also suppresses your appetite

It sure sounds like more than "sweet tooth" as others have said. Please be sure to mention to the doctor about GI bleeding/blood in poop. This is a serious and can be a potentially life-threatening situation. What color is the blood? Dark tarry black/brown? Or bright red? Also, the intense deep pain you describe that doubles you over is not normal. So please please bring these up. At the very least I'd ask for an EGD, and even more, maybe an upper and lower GI or MRI?

I'd especially do all of this before doing another surgery. And the GERD symptoms being so bad after the VSG, that alone would merit a revise to bypass or DS. But I'd worry about having a DS being as light as you are going in.

Hope you get it figured out soon! Hang in there and you might see if going back to low carb and ditching any wheat/sugar will help at least improve the GERD a little and also improve the insatiable hunger a little in the interim?

Hi- I have a very very big sweet tooth, as well. I was able to detox during my pre-op diet two weeks ago (my surgery is next week). I had a horrible Migraine for 5 days, chills, fever-like symptoms, and couldn’t be around ANYONE because of the grumpiness. And day 6, it all disappeared and I felt *amazing*. Haven’t had any sugar for a week and a half and I feel so good.

Perhaps it’s worth trying to detox and seeing how you do. You may find you don’t need the stuff anymore, which will take away some anxiety about the bypass (it sure did for me). Good luck! :)
Sugar detox is something else... Congrats!!!

I had the sleeve in 2014, and my reflux was under control with meds. It started to get worse so they did an endoscopy and found damage. I had bypass on 6/26/2018, so I am pretty fresh lol.
I think because most shakes are so sweet, I don’t crave sweets. I can’t wait for puréed foods to get a little savory in. I have had some Protein Soups without chunks, and they have been divine!

Hi Lindy, I have actually done that before via a diet called Keto. It’s quite successful and yes, the withdrawals are crazy and the Migraines even worse.

It is def worth it.

So..... I had my bypass on 10 July everyone. It’s the 27th of July and I’m still in hospital. A day after surgery, I had major tummy pain. All obs were done however, nobody picked anything up because everything (blood pressure, ecg, oxygen etc) were normal. So after 3 Medical Emergency Team calls at my bedside, fainting, bed hopping in between ICU and normal wards, it turned out I had leaky gut. So in for surgery I went again. I came out with drains, nose time down to my stomach and loads of everything else into my arm. I have a pick line which all my meds go through and been fed nutrients the same way. If anyone is un familiar with a pick line, it is a mega canula that goes to the main artery above your heart. I have been nil by mouth for 2.5 of the 3 weeks I’ve been here. And guess what. I put 8kg on in a single week of Fluid. Then I lost it. And yup. It sure as hell went that I didn’t not lose any weight doing that either. Lol. No food the whole time and i lost nothing. I have to say this though, the reason I didn’t show any signs in the obs was because I was so healthy. Losing weight at this stage is the last thing on my mind. I need to get healthy again to be able to lose weight properly and not be because I am sick. I am more appreciative of carrying that little bit extra because it got me through. Basically, even. The doctors were very concerned. I’ll be here a while still however I appreciate my body so much more than I ever have.

I am so sorry to hear this!! I had a PICC line after my sleeve in 2014, and many hospital stays. I did a little time in ICU and then went to a university hospital for a few weeks. I ended up with a feeding tube for a bit. It was a rough 6 months, but I came out healthier in the end.
Keep us posted!!

Kimber628, gosh. Thank you for sharing your story with me. I felt as though I went to hell and back. I’m glad you’re feeling better now. I’m so scared I’ll never get better again.. I’m so confused about so many things now. What happened in that 6 months for you?

Oh wow, Saddy... that is awful. You have my absolute sympathies - I know what you're going through. I had a stomach leak with my sleeve back in September of 2017 and was in hospital for 3 months. Had 6 surgeries, had the picc line in, etc, etc. No food or Water passed my lips for 3 months.

The TPN they give you is full of nutrients and has calories in it - I too didn't lose weight in hospital, in fact I gained. It was galling having to weigh in and see the number go UP. The only comfort is that you will have ALL your nutrition and be pretty healthy in that respect! But, the whole this is nightmare I know. Did they say why you had a leak? I know mine was just 'bad luck'.

The reason I came on to this section of the board is because I was thinking of getting a sleeve to bypass revision. I might have to rethink that one - I don't know if I can go through that again. I've lost 80 lbs but have stalled, so right now I'm trying some weight loss meds. We'll have to see...

I am so sorry for what you are going through. If there's anything I can do, let me know. Do you have a good support network where you are?

By the way, are you in the UK or from the UK? Just asking because you sound like you are and I'm British (living in the USA since 2003).

p.s. you WILL get better. It just feels like you won't right now. It takes time but you will look back on this some day. Hang in there!

PIC or PICC Line (not “pick”) stands for Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, and is a form of intravenous access that can be used for a long period of time (e.g. chemotherapy regimens, extended antibiotic therapy, or total parenteral nutrition).

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
