Pain Pump and Blood Thinners

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I did my pre-op labs and had my final appointment with my surgeon. During my visit he told me he was sending me home with a pain pump and 10 blood thinner shots. Is this normal? Has anyone went home with a pain pump and blood thinner?

I can’t say what is normal, as each surgeon is different. I didn’t go home with a pain pump, but when I was discharged from the hospital, I was placed on blood thinners. I had to give myself two shots a day for two weeks.

Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery.

I was only given blood thinners in the hospital (once before surgery and then once the next day), and my pain medication was liquid Tylenol and oxycodone. I only needed the pain medication intermittently for a few days after discharge. HOWEVER, this is my experience, and your doctor may feel you will need something different based on your specific situation. Best wishes.

I have been told I will be taking home blood thinners injections too. I once had a D-dime test because of some pain I was having and they suspected a blood clot. The test came back positive but no clot was found on scans, I had the jabs then. For this reason my surgeon doesn't want to take any risks.

Same here

i just took a look at the pain pump online. If it were me, I would ask for pain meds instead. Last thing I would want is something attached to me that might make me more uncomfortable.

A pain pump, wow you must really be in California, around here we get a bottle of tylenol, some stool softeners, maybe some lovenox to shoot ourselves with to prevent, blood clots and a "see you, later" note. They are so scared about the, opiod epidemic some, people don't ev3n with get Norco. to bring home anymore.
I hope I get more than a kiss on the forehead when I leave the hospital in July. I love 48 miles from there so the, likelihood of anyone daubing my fevered brow,on this town is pretty remote. Crazy hospital in Mount Vernon also known as the BandAid Station would say it serves me right for going over to Columbus, the fact they don't have much Bariatrics here, not withstanding. They did start doing lap band and sleeve but I need an RnY which is not offered, may have it by 2020,when they get a better general and Bariatric surgeon,to locate here. But I will not be getting younger and I want and need it now, not at their convenience.😪

I already picked up my pain meds. I got Tylenol 3. That's about all you can get in this area. I will have a patient controlled pain med thing the first day in the hospital.

I had pain pump in the hospital, and blood thinner shots. That was hospital policy,, not my surgeons. Once I was discharged, my surgeon told me I didn't need blood thinner shots, due to my lower bmi. I did have a rx for Norco when I got home.

The pain pump is MyOn-Q. According to their website it is more of a numbing medicine that only affects the surgical area. I suppose to help you get around sooner without the side effects of narcotic.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
