Are you happy with your sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am almost 5 weeks out. I don’t regret it but the recovery is hard for me. It is difficult to eat and my stomach is very sensitive. I have problems getting my fluids in and had an IV to get fluids a few times. I don’t want to scare you, but you should prepare yourself for a recovery that can be not so smooth. I know that it will get better and it is better compared to a day after the surgery BUT it is not easy (at least for me).

Can you explain some of the downsides you had in the beginning?

The first month is the absolute worst part of it. You're only drinking for the first couple of weeks, or however long your doctor tells you, then you can only do mushy foods, etc... Also, the first few days after surgery, I had issues sleeping. I couldn't get comfortable when I laid down, so I had to sleep sitting up on the couch. Again, the first few days after surgery, I would get nauseous pretty often and I got hiccups a lot, but those things have gone away and went away pretty quickly for the most part. Every once in a while I just get hit with a bought of nausea, but it usually only lasts like 30 seconds and it's gone. The worst part to me was the gas pain that you generally get with having laparoscopic surgery. I was in a lot of pain with that gas.

I would do it again though in a second. I'm very obese and I needed to lose weight and I needed a tool to help me do that. I've already lost a total of 52 pounds since my surgery on 3/20/18. I too wish that I would have done it sooner.

Hey has anyone heard from @Ned S, she should have had her sleeve in March, maybe April? She and I were about the same age and I wanted to update her on my. WLS journey?

No regrets. Going through the diet progression, being a bit tired in the early days, and learning to eat differently were a bit of a challenge in the first couple of months, but really not that difficult and well worth it. I am almost 2 years, 3 months post-op and maintaining my loss with the help of my sleeve (and new ways of eating).

I just had surgery on June 4th and I have zero regrets. The downsides I’ve experienced are temporary such as when I first woke up, I had a terrible time taking a deep breath in and had a hard time for 6 days. The gas pains were bad but only in my left shoulder and was easily fixed with a heating pad. I’m having a hard time now with getting enough Water in, constantly feeling full when I do drink and THE PAST TWO DAYS,so over all the sweet stuff. Monday, I get to start puréed foods and can’t wait. I started at 260.0 and 12 days later, I weigh 247. I losing about a pound a day.

I'm back again. I am getting all my fluids in, pooped (tmi but the best NSV right after surgery), walking around the block 1x a day, walking a lot in my house, etc. 198 lbs down from 220. Sleeved June 11th. I do not regret this one bit. I wish I would have cared more when I started getting fat. Alas, this is the best tool for weight loss.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
