Did anyone just have a Panniculectomy?

Recommended Posts

Panniculectomy of my stomach is covered by my insurance, but it will not cover a Tummy Tuck because it is considered cosmetic. I will never show anyone my stomach and I have no intention over ever wearing a bikini because in my mind I always look like I did before I lost over 100 pounds. My BMI is now 24. Has anyone just done the panniculectomy without the tummy tuck? Were you happy with the results? Thanks for the insight.

No experience on this, but some physicians will bill the panniculectomy to insurance and let you pay the out of pocket difference for the Tummy Tuck. You might ask about that and save up the difference in price.

I saw several surgeons and was given a very broad assortment of prices for the Tummy Tuck part. I finally found a surgeon who was willing to do a mini tuck at no cost and only bill the insurance for the panniculectomy. Works for me! She was wonderful! I'm two weeks out of surgery and still healing, but so far extremely happy with the results. Look around and find a surgeon that you are comfortable with. No regrets!

I'm actually trying to get my surgeon to authorize me to have the panniculectomy along with my verticle sleeve gastrectomy. I have trouble with my skin under it and due to the scar tissue I have between my belly button and my groin, my abdomen is very messed up.

How much did your panniculectomy hurt? I've heard that it is pretty bad.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
