Hi all,

Its been a long time since I wrote in here. Im 8 months out and have lost about 70-75 pounds. I feel stuck and my will power has gone out the window. this happened when I went back to work full time. I am back to using food to make me feel better. I am also drinking diet coke. So I need some help to get back on track. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Hey @zallykatz16

Sounds to me like you know what you need to do! If you chuck the Diet Coke (I drink fizzy Water - with a dash of apple juice, or cranberry, or lime juice). And trim the carbs. You’ll have a couple of tough weeks, but remember all those yummy proteiny foods. Halloumi! Salmon! Whatever rocks your boat.

Takes a couple of weeks for the ‘I need sweet stuff’ to wear off again - I notice if I have Diet Coke, my craving for other sweets just steps up.

Or - go full drastic and repeat your post op diet - liquid phase, purée, soft food. Many report that works.

Kebep coming back here. Lean for support, front up, be honest, get on track.....

You are still in that perfect honeymoon period where you can turn this around!! I had the sleeve in 2014 and I did great. I got lower than my goal, but then life got hard. I ate “slider foods” as they feel better going down than dense Protein. I became obsessed with frozen coffees that are full of sugar. I hurt my neck and I had an ovary removed, the other tied, and had major hormonal changes. Boom, 40 pounds back on. It’s a struggle!!
I am converting to bypass due to damage from severe reflux, not the weight gain. I am also looking at it as another chance to do it right. I refuse to fail.

You could do the "reset" (doing the pre-op diet again). Are you still paying attention to your intake? Are you working out beyond whatever you do in your normal day to day? As we lose weight and get older, our Basal Metabolic Rate (the amount of calories we burn just existing) drops, so what got you to lose those 70+ lbs, isn't quite going to cut it any longer. I'd say get back to focusing on what you SHOULD be eating and drinking, make sure you hit those Protein and Water requirements and start doing some exercise at least 60 mins a day! Count your intake, make sure you are expending more calories than you are consuming and you should start to see some progress again!

Good luck! It's a long haul marathon with lots of surprises and set backs... but as long as you stay focused and get back up, you'll be just fine.

You got this!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
