Hi guys! I’m interested to hear from post op guys as to recovery times. I know the recommended is 2 weeks but I have a very sedentary office job- did anyone go back after 1 week and how do you feel 1 week post op?? Are you in pain or really tired? Thanks team!

Everyone will be different, and the sleeve is less of a punch to the system, but 2 weeks seems a little early even still. At 2 weeks you might still be on pain narcotics. You will certainly still have incision site pain, some folks are still getting blood thinners up to the 2 week mark, so there are a few factors that come into play. If you can't take the time off, that's understandable, but the longer you can rest and recover, without any stresses of having to go to work... will be beneficial.

I was sleeved on 12/18 and in a client’s office on 12/27. I had no pain at that point but did feel rather week. If I could go back, I would have taken a full two weeks off.

I was sleeved on Friday 4/27 and returned to work Tuesday 5/8. I have a desk job. I had moments of fatigue and it is hard to be around people eating whatever they want (my family was much more considerate), but all and all I was fine. My surgeon was unconcerned as well, even after I told him a walk a mile to work from the train station. You just need to listen to your body.

Everyone is different. But I had a very easy recovery.

I work from home, so I technically took no time off. I wasn't on any pain meds after the second day. I was able to work, emails, conference call etc., immediately. I was driving by the third day. No issues with doing laundry, light housework, fixing meals.

If I had a sedentary desk job then 1 week would have been more than enough for me.

I took 6 weeks off, but I also had to recover from getting shingles during my hospital stay. Everyone thinks they can go back after a few weeks if they have a desk job, but its easy to forget that blood clots, pulmonary embolisms are one of the most common post surgical complications. If you do go back to a sedentary job, make sure you are up walking every hour for at least 10 mins for the first 6 weeks. The risk doesn't go away once you stop the blood thinners.

I plan to be off for one week, then go back to half days for the second week, then full days the third week.

I have a desk job as well, but my desk goes from sitting to standing so I am glad I have that option. I have talked to a couple people who have had the same surgery as me all who went back to work after one week and they said the only issue is your tired. But heck, I am obese right now and have two little kids who don't sleep through the night so I am used to be tired.

I had plans to go back after 1 week, but that didn't work out, because, sadly, my grandmother passed away 6 days after my surgery. I think I could have gone back. I also have a sedentary office job. I ended up helping clean up her house and pack some things; I was careful, of course. I think you'll be okay. I ended up going back 2 weeks after the surgery, and I was fine.

I am planning on going back after 2 weeks. My surgeon has told me I’ll spend 5 days in hospital and then go home. I’ll see how I feel at the end of the 2 weeks. I can either return to work, work from home or take another week off. I’m lucky I have a flexible work place and a job that can be done from home.

I had surgery on a Tuesday left the hospital on Thursday and went back to work on Friday. I was really tired after that first day but really feel that getting back to normal has really helped my recovery. I am now 12 days post op and feeling great! I get tired more quickly than normal but feeling fantastic otherwise.

I had my surgery done on a Thursday and went back to work on a Tuesday but only half a day because i was tired. I ended up taking the rest of the week off due to getting an infection but then i went back the following week but was only doing half days until my energy level came back up. Thankfully I’m able to work from home if need be

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
