Stuck in a hotel for 5 nights, what would you bring for meals?

Recommended Posts

I'm staying at a hotel for 5 nights, and I'm trying to think of what to bring for my meals. We only get a tiny mini fridge and a coffee maker. So I need ideas on what I could bring that don't require refrigeration or an oven or microwave. Everything I can think of isn't very healthy for me, such as those bags of mashed potatoes that you just add Water to. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm about 1 month and a week post-op and able to eat solid foods that aren't too hard or tough.

If you guys were in this situation, what would you bring?

So far, all I can think of is getting cheese that doesn't take up much space, like the laughing cow ones. But I can't just live off of those.

Here are some of the items I've had in similar situations:

Cottage cheese (you can get small containers), greek yogurt, string cheese, beef Jerky, cold meats like ground turkey, deli meat, chicken, etc, Soups (put can in sink with hot Water before opening it to heat it a little).

Not a ton of variety, but maybe eough to get through. For extra storage you could bring a cooler an keep it full of Ice from the ice Machine.

Egg salad, chicken salad, seafood salad, tuna

cheese, deli meat, peoperoni

Protein Drinks, nuts if you’re allowed, Protein Bars

yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus/bean dip, Peanut Butter

Maybe make pre-made chicken/cheese wraps to store in fridge

fruit If you’re allowed

also check with the hotel, some have microwaves that you can rent for about $10/day and they’ll place in your room. Or you could buy a mini microwave, use it, & return it once you’re done. Seems extreme but if you really need to, do it

The tuna packets that come in the foil packaging. They don't require fridge rated , and some have 11+grams of Protein .

Premade Protein Shakes don't have to be cold.

There are some protein "snack" packs that are really good. I usually omit the crackers that come with.

There is often a microwave for use down in the mini market area.

Tons of great ideas on here already. I'd just add shelf stable hummus, maybe with cucumber. Or if you have fridge room the refrigerated Sabra cups. You should have coffee maker that you can use for hot Water, I like some of the high Protein Soups from this site. If you get access to a microwave, shelf stable soups in asepctic boxes, heated in a coffee mug. I loved Trader Joe's/Pacific brand Tomato w Roasted Red Pepper.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
