Anyone NOT lose their hair?

Recommended Posts

I have the same question. I have very full, long and thick natural 4b&C African American hair. When it is full afro mode or a twistout you can't see through it. I have had thick hair all of my life. I'm having a hard time accepting my hair may become thin and see through... would love to hear different experiences but especially from anyone that did NOT lose their hair. In the interim I have started deep conditioning every week and Protein packs as needed, but I have been told on other websites none of it matters it can't be avoided I will lose my hair. :(

Everyone’s experience with Hair loss is different.. my surgeon told me the same thing about getting my Protein and I never take in less than 100g a day and my hair has been falling out for the last 2 months now. I have been taking Biotin everyday as well.. nothing can prevent it from happening.. it’s part of the process... at first I cried every single day, at this point I have learned to accept it.

Everyone is different. I lost my hair and it never grew back when I had my VSG. But that could be because I am still so deficient per lab work with Iron, Vitamin D & more; despite taking recommendations for supplements

Out of curiosity, which product line are you using?

Remember eggs and nuts are a good natural source of Biotin.< /p>

Many people experience Hair loss. For many people their hair loss stops when they reach the maintenance phase and they experience hair restoration. Some individuals mention that the texture of their hair changes after recovery. I did not experience hair loss. But I use a product called Juvenon, which is available over the internet. It helps to keep my mitochondria healthy.

OK :-) So since your labs are coming back low, may I suggest that you switch to Bariatric Advantage or Celebrate Vitamins and Calcium supplements? Both are designed specifically for bariatric surgery folks.

I will see. My nutritionist said the ones I were taking are fine. I may try what you suggest but I have to finish mine first

I was "interviewing" a friend of a friend via email about her experiences with RNY (she and her husband both had it) because I only know one person who's had it who is alive and well (and I hadn't yet discovered these forums).

This lady was a very matter-of-fact 50-ish woman who basically said "why on earth are you worried about THAT?" to every question I asked about possible side effects. She and hubby had no side effects.

She has very thick hair, and when I said I was worried about Hair loss she asked why! I told her it was a common side effect, and she says nope, neither one lost their hair. She didn't even know it could happen. Her guess was it was because they were very adherent to the nutritional requirements.

After reading endless accounts of winning and losing the hair loss games, my guess is that they won some genetic lottery.

I lost quite a bit of hair during my Lap Band journey to the point I could easily see my scalp, but can't say the same this time around. During the pre-op liquid diet, I noticed VERY large hairballs in the shower and was very worried that I would lose a lot of hair post operatively. At 4 weeks out, I am not losing any more hair than the usual few strands in the comb or brush after a washing.

I try to get at least 60 grams of Protein per day. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail. I am using the MD Patches (Gastric sleeve premium health pack and the Biotin patch). As I prepared for surgery, I was worried about taking those oral "horse pill" Vitamins post operatively and wasn't interested in trying to schedule a whole bunch of chewables. So, I thought I'd try the patch. They're easy and really convenient. I recently read that they have mixed reviews on effectiveness, but they seem to be doing well for me. Just ordered another month's worth.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
