Awesome Trixie! How did all your pre-op requirements go? Did you feel they were beneficial?

My insurance doesn't require a lot of steps but they were beneficial. I had to do 3 classes at my surgeons office and they were great. My nut consult was good too. I also needed a letter of support from my doctor and a psych eval. The psych eval was an in person interview and a few written tests. Today I finished up the tests.

I would love to make some surgery buddies now so we can go through all the pre-op requirements together and stick through surgery and beyond. Anyone else already know their surgery will occur this summer?

My surgery is going to fall in the July or August time frame. Most of this is dependent upon checking all my surgeon's boxes, the rest is dependent upon my financing since I'm self-pay. I'll be getting the sleeve.

I love my surgeon and feel really lucky to have found him. So far the pre-op stuff has gone smoothly, but I am just at the beginning stages. I've scheduled all my evals and classes and attended my first weight loss class last week. I found it to be mildly helpful. It was certainly geared more toward those that hadn't already read through the surgery binder and/or those that had no clue what healthy eating consisted of. I'm hoping future classes focus more on the post-op eating.

My first visit with my PCP about this surgery is next week as that's the soonest I could get in to see her. I'm hoping she'll be supportive as my surgeon knew of her when I told him that's who I see. But if I have to find another PCP so be it.

My first dietician appt is next week and psych eval is the week after that. I only have to get these three meetings out of the way to schedule my surgery. So I'm anxious to get that done!

I'm excited to hear from others along the same timeline as me!

I am on a similar path! Im on month 3 of 6. My insurance requires 6 months of monitoring and all the pre op get up! I have done my labs, EKG, PT assesment and sleep study. I see nutrition Thurs! If all goes well, I will have the RNY in August!

I have had 4 or my 6 required office visits with my doctor. I've completed my psych eval, nutritional assessment, had test run/Blood work/EKG/Upper GI and 1 of 2 nutrition courses.. So I hope paperwork will be getting submitted for approval early June, bc my last office visit is Late May... Anxiously awaiting.

Sounds identical to my current situation lol. I have to wait til September though with my insurance. Ugh..

If all goes as planned mine should be sometime in June / July / August. My birthday is in August so I'm hoping to have it done before then (totally an arbitrary goal but it'll feel like a really weird birthday present to myself, lol). I've had the first appointment with the surgeon, he wants me to lose 15 pounds before he'll schedule surgery (not an insurance requirement, probably just to see if I can follow instructions or something?). Had an appointment with the nutritionist yesterday and I can't do the psych eval until I've started a downward trend in my weight. But... progress. :) Happy to be among you, my fellow summer surgery buddies.

I am more than likely having mine in July. I’ve had most my pre-op stuff done, but I’m in limbo with the sleep people. Hopefully they clear me next week, but who knows!

I started in January, but have had a bit of life-stuff come up that has made me slow the process down so I’d get approved at a more convenient time. Luckily the program I’m in is okay with my slowed down process and said as long as I keep losing it’s no big deal!

Also, glad to meet fellow summer folks!

Welcome! Was your Upper GI a requirement or due to previous medical issues you had? I don't know yet if my surgeon requires this or not.

Good! My psych and nut eval are still to come but I'm looking forward to them!

I totally understand wanting it before your birthday, I'm that way too. My birthday isn't until November but I'd really like to be fully recovered and down a few pounds by then.

Your surgeon seems very strict. Mine doesn't require any weight loss at all before the surgery and I love that he explained that that no one needs that stress before surgery and if people were able to lose weight on their own then they wouldn't be in his office in the first place! Good luck with your weight loss though, we'll be cheering you on! :)

Have you already done the sleep study and are just waiting on the results. I'm waiting to hear if I have to do one or not. I've recently had a sleep related diagnosis and not sure how that will impact any sleep study needs.

Yes. I did a home sleep study a few weeks ago and have my results appointment next week. However, they tried to call me today (but I missed it) so I’m hoping it wasn’t to tell me I need to do it again. But I am pretty sure they’ll say I have OSP so I’m not sure what the next step will be...

Let me know what you find out about the study and the impact on your surgery. I'm in a waiting stage with all that.

Did you have previous GI issues or is just a precautionary test for everyone?

No previous GI issues. I assume it was just a precautionary test.

I have a tentative surgery date of 8/20! I started the process in February and go to my second nutritionist appointment tomorrow and have my GI scope done on Friday. I see the nutritionist monthly and also had to see a pulmonologist to rule out sleep apnea, a chest xray, an exercise physiologist, blood work and the psych appointment and all of those are out of the way thank goodness haha. Very excited to get the scope done and then I should have a better idea if anything else is needed and if I can keep my date.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
