Thanks for letting me join the forum. I had gastric bypass on February 27th. I have been struggling with pain but I am still really struggling with a burning and pulling pain from my main incision on the left. I tried to go back to work yesterday, it went horribly. The burning just takes my breath away at times. Sitting the pain is better but standing and making position changes its intense. I am thinking of calling the doctor again it is possible that I went back to work to soon! I am a nurse and took a new job in the NICU so I thought since I was on orientation it might be ok to go back but its becoming evident that was incorrect thinking. I just want some feedback as to if anyone has experiences like this and what /when to expect it to go away. Thanks so much for your time!!!

I am having the same problem. It started on Day 10, it now Day 15, and I am ready for it to go away! I am going to call my surgeon's office again today. Its definitely a burning/searing pain at the main incision site that flares when I move. Its miserable!

It goes away. I had the same thing. I was caught off guard as my pain had mainly went away then I had a burning tearing type of pain that started about three weeks post op. My understanding is it’s the nerves repairing themselves that cause the pain. It lasted a few a few weeks, maybe 10-14 days, then went away gradually.

It seems to be normal for lots of us.

From your fingertips to god's ear!! Cause this is holding me back from doing simple things like walking.

At the risk of jinxing myself, I felt a wee bit better this morning when I got out of bed. I guess it is possible that I have simply leaned to move without engaging the impacted muscle/nerves??? Since last night was the worst, it makes me wonder if I pulled something free.

I’m sure you’re on the mend. Mine just kind of gradually went away. As a matter of fact I think I was googling “burning, tearing, pain after gastric bypass” just to see if this was common, and I found quite a bit on the subject.

Unless you feel something actually pop or tear internally chances are it’s just an annoying part of the healing process.

I have a spot still in between two incisions, I guess where an instrument went through my muscle. I can feel it. It’s not painful but I know it’s there especially if I do lots of activity. My surgeon said that’s normal.

Bodies are strange things.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
