Are 2 anesthesia procedures before VSG too many?

Recommended Posts

I have a VSG being scheduled for mid to late April (pending insurance approval hopefully this week).

i have an optional endoscopy/colonoscopy scheduled for this Friday, MARCH 23 — anesthesia procedure # 1

Yesterday, I found out that I must have a hysteroscopy, which is a 30-minute diagnostic procedure on APRIL 11 — anesthesia procedure #2

What should I do?! I really do not want to push back my VSG any further—with work, if not in April, I’d have to wait until June!

You will be fine in my mind. A lot of people have endoscopy within a short time before WLS and I doubt if the hysterscopy would be that stressful either on your body. Think of them as tests more than surgeries[emoji13]

You should, of course, double check with your doctor on this, but I also suspect you'll be fine. I know I had a number of procedures and tests before the sleeve surgery, including an upper endoscopy for which I was sedated. Unless you have some history of difficulty with anesthesia, this shouldn't be a concern.

The anesthesia for the endoscopy is considered a lite anesthetic so you should be fine. If you have any concerns, speak with your doctor or surgeon. Best wishes!

Thanks for helping to put my mind at ease—I definitely will run it by my surgeon. He is a bit hard to get to and I did not not to wonder until my surgical consult. I realize these are just some final hurdles to clear before the real journey begins! All the best

I had an aborted sleeve in January and sinus surgery 3 weeks ago both with anesthesia and am scheduled April 12th. Neither the doctor or the hospital had a problem with it. Good luck!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
