Lapband won’t open until evening

Recommended Posts

I am struggling with not being able to eat anything until after supper. I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried Soup, chewing until food is liquid. liquids won’t go though. Around 6 pm I can finally eat so my daily intake takes place from 6 to 9 pm. I’m starving. I don’t want a defill. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry, but this is a call to your doc IMHO. ((hugs))

At times, I find that as well. Sometimes a tiny deflate.... sometimes just waiting. I drink hot tea in the afternoon. It seems to help open my band just a bit. I have always !! Not been able to eat til around 2-3-4. Late lunch works.
Hard to find a spot that works for you ... keep trying!!

I had the Lapland for 11 years (removed b/c of infection about a year or so ago).....I continually had this issue and would find that if I was stressed out this was even more pronounced. If I would get some exercise and find a way to de-stress, then I'd be more open. Also, you absolutely need to be hydrated. Sorry you are experiencing this as well -- I never could get a straight answer as to why this occurred (I definitely was not too tight).....but it was an ordeal the entire time I had my band.

Thanks for your reply. I’m just glad to hear I’m not the only one. I’m definitely not too tight because in the evenings just about anything can down. I definitely don’t want to get a de fill cause it took forever just to get to this point. I guess it’s just something I have to learn to live with

Hope you figure out the "tricks" to open it up more. I was running marathons when I had my band and found too much exercise was "too stressful" on my body and it actually tightened. More moderate exercise was just right. It was a bit absurd all the "rules" my band had -- but eventually I learned to live with it. I know what you mean about it being wide open in the evenings -- it was the same thing for me. Good luck.

Had the Lapband for years and was told by my surgeon that when you are stressed, sick or things like that, our body tissues swell internally, this includes your organs....this is why Your bands are tighter in those times. Never found out why it seemed tighter in the first part of the day but it’s Normal...

I'm struggling with the same thing right now. I have trouble until evening. I can get stuff down in the morning but it hard to get yogurt or even a Protein Shake down. It actually hurts and feels like it just sits in my chest. I as well don't think I am too tight because I can eat a large portion in the evening. I just had a feel last week so I'm trying to tough it out and see how it goes.

very common, exactly how mine was. don't suggest you live with it. it isn't healthy long term, mine permanently damaged my esophagus.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
