Ever since I have been here, fluff, you have been an inspiration. Eyes on the goal, I have admired you, and I have thought “how the hell can she keep this up for so bloody long before they give her the surgical tools to help?”

And now, you are on the thresh hold. All of us who arrived later and you helped as we waltzed by and got The Tool before you - now you join us on the losers’ bench.

I am so stoked, you will be on my mind a lot over the next few days.

❤️ (Heart emoji)

Oh my gosh. Tears. It's official. Heart grew 3 sizes just now. :D:780_sparkling_heart::780_sparkling_heart::780_sparkling_heart::D

Thank YOU so much for walking the road before me and letting me know that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train! And you've helped so much to let me know, that this "thing" looming is do-able. :) Hugs my friend. I appreciate your support more than you can possibly imagine!

@Sosewsue61 You look absolutely beautiful and so confident!!! Did you feel like you were on top of the world? I've never been on a cruise before, but gosh that looks and sounds like such fun. Love the piccy of the dining room and the beach too! The food sounds divine! I don't know whether to say you are lucky or unfortunate that you're sleeved and don't have to worry about dumping like you would with RNY. But I suspect you realize what a slippery slope that represents. ((hugs)) Good for you for exercising temperance in your serving sizes and for not gaining while on vaca!!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Hope you'll hang around a while, now that you're back!!

@FluffyChix I really can't believe that your two weeks are almost up -- seems like you just started!! How excited are you at this point?

I meant to tell you, I DID try banana+coffee, but with chocolate shake as base and espresso powder as coffee. And some spinach, just because. Its now my favorite shake!

I would be beyond excited but I have this nagging doubt that it's really gonna happen. I told the surgeon this week that I hoped it would not end up with me waking up and you saying, "Psyched! We didn't really remove anything..." And she smiled, reassured me, and told me that the plan is to do RNY and if anything would prevent that, then to do VSG. I said, ok. And asked if it was ok to get excited. She said it's ok. LOL. So yes, I'm beyond excited. :)

Your shake sounds super duper! What did you use for the banana? I swear the combination of banana and coffee, or chocolate, banana and coffee have been sustaining me for the past few days! The coffee really cuts down on the sweetness. And of course, I seriously love frozen spinach blended into my drinks!

I use bananas for the banana element :P I, too, feel like someone is going to pull the rug out from under me and there will be no surgery after all of this buildup -- its nerve wracking. Was at costco yesterday with husband and it really hit home for me that my pre-op diet starts in a week and the way we shop and eat is really going to change.

Day 14 In the bag baybeeee! Boomshackalacka!!! (T minus 2 and counting!)

Yesterday was a super duper day! We spent part of it with our niece and great niece where she cheered at a school basketball tournament. Then we took B to lunch while G continued to cheer at another game. I was immensely proud of my restraint. We went to a BBQ joint where they have this "cafeteria style" ordering and it looked sooooooo meatalicious!!! But I got through it and ordered my cup of decaff and a tall glass of ice and we sat down. While they ate, I poured the Decaf onto the ice and followed with my Protein Drink. As they ate, I sipped. And we had a lovely opportunity to visit and catch up! And my focus wasn't on food for once. What an eye-opener!!!

After lunch we kissed them goodbye and then went Targeting and HEBing. I got some last minute stuff and a pair of cheap-ass disposable house slippers to wear at the hospital, and laid in a supply of food for Mr. F. and Cakki my sissy who is coming to take care of me for a couple of days. That way, when I'm ready to go home, I will just toss them in their trash and no MRSA or C-diff will come home with me (or at least, I cut that risk down considerably).

I also ordered liquid sugar free acetaminophen (McKesson Geri-Care) and Gas-X strips online at Amazon. Thank you Amazon Prime. I :780_sparkling_heart: you. Can you believe it's so difficult to get sugar free tylenol or Gas X strips in a brick n mortar?

By the time I finished everything I was seriously pooped and in big time Billy Badass pain, so threw Mr. F a port wine cheeseball and pork rind snack, made a cup of Herb Ox Beef Bouillon and sat in my chair. It was leftovers for the boy, and Protein broth for me with Jello and a SF Tropical Popsicle back. Good times. Tomball on a Saturday night!

Today I'm making a pork roast and a grilled ribeye with asparagus and a mixed salad with blue cheese dressing as his "proverbial" last meal. Tomorrow will be more leftovers and he and Cakki will have pork roast leftover for the week. Today I'm concentrating on getting the house straightened and clothes washed, folded and put away. Then tomorrow I will pack and relax! I'm not planning on working tomorrow at all! Say a prayer that really works out. :D

Here's Day 14 Food Log. (Using the Clear PP really brought the cals down. :( )

OMG. That is such a huge realization!!! ((hugs)) I was 228.6 before the last 4 days leading up to my pre-op diet. I managed through cunning and forethought to eat my way from 228.6 up to 234 as of the morning of the 1st day of POLiquid. How crazy right? It's the very thing I have posted for people to not do. And yet, I did it. And enjoyed every minute of it. Every day was a food funeral! But seriously...looking back, I was shocked at how much less I ate! I couldn't fit in all the meals or eat the complete meal even. We had leftovers for Mr. F! I would just encourage you to eat what you find the most and bestest! I went with cheap fatty crap and Texas BBQ, which is not cheap, lol. If I coulda found an RC Cola and a Moon Pie, I probably woulda had a couple of those too! One week is gonna be here SO dang fast girl!!!!

I don't know how to get us past that waiting for the other shoe to drop part. :( It's the pessimist in me, I suppose? But I also think we read the horror stories here on the board and see that it can be a reality so we're trying to mitigate potential damages as a coping mechanism perhaps? Dunno. ((hugs)) You are gonna be a rock star through this!

Hey! Why not make your own surgery thread story here so we can all come cheer you day by day? It's really been helpful to me, although it must be like watching attention seeking paint dry to everyone else!! I'd come cheer you on!!!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's the PITS! And makes you feel so helpless. Just glom onto faith and hold fast! And we'll continue to pray like the devil's after us!!!

Yes, well I can't comment on that thread or that poster without violating TOC. I had to ask myself these 3 critical questions when I read it:

1. Does what is about to be said now, need to be said?

2. Does what is said need to be said right now?

3. Does what is said need to be said by you?

And it failed to pass. So I sat on my hands. But needless to say--her picture speaks loudly. Isn't a picture worth a 1000 words? I think it is! What I don't get is that we were all fatties. I'm pretty sure most of us were bullied and ridiculed either repetitively or at some point in our lives. Why on earth would someone who has managed to escape the bonds of their morbid obesity act like a mean girl skinny bi*ch? I just don't get it. I would think someone like that has perhaps a serious personality disorder. :(

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
