Different doctors different stages of diet

Recommended Posts

The diet varies based on the need to the surgeon and patient

Surgeons like to shrink the liver to have greater visibility during laproscopic surgeries in the abdomen. Livers in obese people ate larger usually due to a condition called fatty liver. To reduce the size your body must go into ketosis (fat metabolism) and the liquid diets speed this up. That being said I did not require a liquid diet prior to the two days before where almost everyone goes only on Clear Liquids.

My doctor only recommended a 2wk post op liquid diet, but allowed me to proceed to the next stage 10 days after surgery. It all depends on the surgeon/doctor and how they run their program. Honestly, I don't know if there is a difference.

This is still an evolving field, So different programs use different best practices and data. Some have very restrictive post surgery diets and others don't. Generally the purpose post op is to give you time to heal and minimize complications. Many programs also track their own data, so if they find one approach gives better results (more loss, fewer complications) then they will tweak their recommendations. You can ask a program about their statistics, which is enlightening. For example my specific program sees better than national averages in terms of loss from the sleeve, but really limits carbs VS others.

Ugh read the post wrong and responded incorrectly...

It's usually based on each person's progress and that particular surgeons comfort level progressing patients through the stages

There is no rhyme or reason to it.

Some doctors base their practices on old information.

Some doctors base their practices on new research.

Some doctors use data, some use personal prejudices, some do what's easiest.

Some doctors don't really care about their patients long term health or long term success....they concentrate on shockingly fast weight loss only....because it keeps the new clients pouring in.

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
