Huge Appetite...Small Stomach

Recommended Posts

Anyone having difficulty transferring from liquids to solids? I'm 17-days post sleeve surgery and finding it difficult to determine what and how much to eat. My support group only meets once a month. Any suggestions?

1ounce in tiny tiny bites at a time, bite, chew, swallow, wait a couple minutes, another bite, and wait five minutes, try one more bite.

Start with chicken or tuna salad, cottage cheese, maybe scrambled eggs. Refried Beans and a little melted cheese. Solid Protein should be moistened or cooked in soup/broth, etc. Beef can be tough to digest, so try chicken thighs, soft white fish.

Thank you so much. How do you get past the not being able to drink fluids while eating? Sometimes it feels like the good is stuck.

You have to make sure anything you eat is very moist. Soft white fish goes down very easy like haddock or cod. Also, chicken thighs, add some chicken broth to it and it will slide down easier. I lived off cottage cheese and yogurt when i was forst sleeved. Scrambled eggs mamy people eat, but they came right back up for me. Now 9 months out I can get them down sometimes, but not all the time, not sure why. Good luck, just try small bites and youll figure out what works for you, everyone is different .

Which procedure did you have? You have to eat slow and chew a lot. Try not to let food get to dry. As the other poster said add a little brother to meats to keep it moist. Also, the not drinking takes a lot of getting used to. I'm 10 months out and it's still difficult sometimes. Occasionally, I will take a tiny sip of Water when eating. I'm sitting here now watching my watch waiting for 30 minutes to please pass. I ate less than 1/2 cup of well cooked red Beans and a piece of a small wing cooked in the air fryer. I am extremely thirsty but I know I have to wait. It does get a little easier though. Good luck!!!

My favorite transition foods were yogurt (whipped greek), cream of wheat thinned with Protein Drink, oatmeal thinned with Protein drink, sugar free pudding, and blended cream based Soups. After I tolerated those well and could eat about 3 ounces in one sitting, I started adding soft foods.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
