Hi All: I am days away from surgery, on my preop diet and I went to the cardiologist today for clearance. Had my ekg. Then the doc came in and said that since I have diabetes and a family history of heart disease I had to have an echo cardiogram and a nuclear stress test on the tread mill. I must say I was surprised and a bit let down because I thought that this was the last thing I had to do before the surgery. I right out asked him if there was anything wrong and was told no, just my family history and diabetes.

I do realize the he is probably just trying to take good care of me but.....

Have any of you had to do this before the RNY? Have any of you had heart problems and still had the RNY?

Thanks for any input.

I just went through the exact same thing. Had ecg, it checked out fine. I have family history of heart disease plus I get winded easily. I explained that I am certain it is the weight causing me to be out of breath with activity. Still, I have to do stress test and ultrasound before he clears me.

I am not worried about it. I have read posts from plenty of people with heart issues that had surgery. I am glad that extra precautions are taken to keep me as safe as possible.

I had an irregular EKG. I needed the echocardiogram to be cleared.

I will just take your attitude about it. Sounds less stressful lol. Thanks

I had to do the echocardiogram and nuclear stress test for the exact same reasons -- diabetes and history of heart disease in my family despite not having any symptoms of heart disease. I got nervous about the stress test results (my father died young of a heart attack), but all turned out normal, and the cardiologist approved me for surgery. I bet you will be fine as well. Good luck!

Thank you for your post. I will just remain calm and push forward.

Weird, I do have diabetes (no family history of heart disease) and all I needed was an EKG. However I am under 30 so maybe that makes a difference? I can fully relate to having to jump through hoops tho! I can join the circus after this experience. Hang in there.

No heart problems, but the same thing happened to me. I had to do all of those tests.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
