As you can see from my profile, I've received a gastric sleeve nearly 6 months ago and have had great success. Unfortunately, my stomach has a leak, so most likely my sleeve will be converted to a bypass. I want to know from Bypass recipients, how long after surgery where you back doing normal activities? Began exercising?

Do you have an ulcer, or a leak at the suture line? Man, six months out is late for a leak. Can you give us any more details about how you discovered this? Had you been sick a while?

The Leak was realized a few weeks after surgery. It appeared to be healing on its own and contained. But I have developed two infections that are related to the leak, so unless the scan shows complete healing on Monday, we will schedule a bypass. This is why I want to know about recovery time. I have a short trip planned for mid-March that I don't want to cancel.

Low-grade fever and lower left-side abdominal pain.

Let me first say that you're doing fantastically. Don't let this little set back matter in the least. Are you in the hospital now? I am curious as to why you're going to get a revision to bypass if the sleeve is working well. Not a judgment at all, I am simply interested in the doctor's reasoning

Because the sleeve leak cannot be surgically repaired and if it's not fixed, I will continue to get infections. With bypass they create new stomach.

For my RnY recovery - I was back to work after 3 weeks (I could have come back sooner if I really wanted to) and released to exercise at 4 weeks. Before 4 weeks the only exercise I was supposed to do was walking but I did use the exercise bike a couple of times just for a change of pace. I felt fine exercising after 4 weeks except for ab work....that was probably more like 6-8 weeks. Just listen to your body (and your doctor obviously!)

I was back to work after 2 weeks but tired at the end of the day. At three weeks I felt I had energy back. I was full on exercising 4 weeks out (Crossfit).

My RNY was done by open surgery - cut from navel up to rib cage, ribs spread apart, when whole 9 yards. (complications from previous gastric band). So - your surgical worst-case scenario basically!

Within 2 weeks I was happily walking, but still fatigued very easily. 4 weeks and I feel like normal, no more fatigue, but lifting weights isn’t allowed until 6 weeks.

I'm only 6 days out from surgery and still feel very weak, tired, lethargic, but it gets slightly better every day. I too am wondering how long this will last. It would be easier if i could drink more than a half bottle of Water per day.

The first week after any surgery is tough. The Water intake will get better. Make sure to try and drink a few ounces every hour.

I was converted from sleeve to bypass a month ago. I was walking around the hospital the next day and haven’t sat still since. I get tired a little bit but have felt great. I was allowed to go back to the gym (treadmill and bike )two weeks out. I also was allowed to do light weights at two weeks I’m talking two pound dumbbell not machine. I was told I can do yoga in two weeks as long as it’s basic yoga and at two to three months I can do Pilates.

I had strictures, hour glass sleeve with a cork screw formation. No leak but a very bad situation and I instantly felt better and had more energy. Hopefully you have the same success. Good luck!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
