Gastritis and RnY

Recommended Posts

I had a bit of gastritis. Still had my surgery. I’m more curious how many people don’t have gastritis.....:)

I work in a hospital. Every patient I’ve ever had has gastritis it seems. They may put you on a PPI before surgery. I think you’ll be fine. Can’t see them cancelling for something so common.

When researchers examine the removed portion of stomach from RNY and Sleeve patients...something obscene...like 60% show chronic gastritis.

You do want to have the test to make sure you don't have the ulcer bacteria present. If you have that, it'll need to be treated before surgery. But if not, it shouldn't cause a delay.

PS...I had an endoscopy and had chronic gastritis diagnosed, too. They took biopsies to check for the helicobacter pylori bacteria...and I didn't have any. No delay on surgery. (I did have sleeve, though, not RNY, full disclosure)

I was found to have gastritis and h-pylori a few weeks prior to surgery. I had to take some pretty mean antibiotics to cure it. 12 pills per day. The antibiotics we're worse than the gastritis. They still went on with the rny.

I've been on PPIs for years because of GERD, which had caused gastritis years ago. There was no signs of problems leading up to my RNY and I had my surgery this past year.

I'd say not to get discouraged.

I haven't met a person who had a positive experience with taking antibiotics. But I already have gastritis, so antibiotics can't make it worse. I'm philosophical about it: I'd rather endure it all now, and then I'll be happy about my improved well-being. Unfortunately, ordinary pills to improve digestion won't help with gastritis, otherwise, doctors would be out of work. My operation will take place on schedule, the surgeon saw no point in delaying.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
