DC or other who has a gastric balloon? How it going?

Recommended Posts

I’m considering a balloon and want to see how others have faired. Mostly interested in the middle bit since it seems like most people get better but some still struggle with nausea etc. and nausea is the worst. And I’m a toddler teacher which is impossible to do when you’re not feeling 100% Nw I’ve got two girls. How many weeks/days until folks started to really feel like themselves again. Thanks!

What are your stats and how much are you hoping to lose

My wife has FARED well.

On her second balloon now ... first one in eight months, this one nearly five months.

Dropped from 126 kg to 85.6 kg.

For non-metric countries, that's 277.8 pounds to 188.7 pounds.

No nausea for her but she has had issues with the need to chew food to pulp, especially on the first balloon.

The procedure to put one in or take one out is quick. Requires about a two hour post-op stay to confirm 'no problems' then be sent home.

That's interesting in UK they won't do the balloon if you have more than 30lbs to lose and only in 6 months.

Well, it's pretty much only for the privately insured here in AUS ... or those who can afford the $AUD1700 without insurance.

And, to correct you, at Sunderland in the UK, lots of people with BMIs over 40 get the balloon to help them start the process for WLS.

We get the UK's "Weight Loss Ward" and "Fat Doctor" here in AUS ... and the two main doctors use balloons on a selection of patients.

In fact, that's where my wife got the idea to try a balloon about 19 months back.

You can't correct me. You can not get a balloon on the nhs if you have more than 30lbs to loss. Your unbelievable you think you know more than me due to a program you watch?

You may want to disagree because of a CURRENT general NHS policy but, on "WEIGHT LOSS WARD" (UK), the senior weight-loss surgeon/registrar (DR PAUL JAMINET) at the Sunderland Hospital has approved several (more than three) gastric balloon interventions. One was for a man who was over 27 years old and at 47 stone with a huge BMI. His name was Terry Gardner.

It (and the ones to other recipients on other episodes the show) was given as a kick-start to a man with huge eating disorder issues to overcome.

The decision, in his case. was made as an extreme incentive to help the man who had a wife and quite young family.

You may scoff and dispute this info but we watched it twice. It's not as though the documentary evidence does not exist. It's still on the WEIGHT LOSS WARD Youtube channel.

I just went and watched it again to verify that I was correct in reporting it to you.

I don't disagree that, right now in 2017, they may not be giving MORBIDLY OBESE people gastric balloons but the history, pre-2017, is correct.

Who gives a crap about history . It's about now. And you tried to correct someone who lives in the country that knows about her own country. Your so annoying. Your still wrong. I didn't make my comment on history know it all.

No it doesn't undermine anything. I'm talking about now. Not history. They do not offer balloons on the nhs to people who have more than 30lbs to lose because they don't offer wls to someone that low weight on the nhs and they feel other surgery's are more cost effective and generally effective on morbidly obese people. Period. It's not about some program you watched. Your telling everyone you know more than them based on a program you watched when I actually live here. It's ridiculous. I didn't say it has NEVER been done. I said what the current situation is so how am I being undermined ? Did I say it never has happened ? No.

You are a loud-mouthed, small-minded and vindictive user. Even when you are plain f**king wrong, you do not know when to stop.

It's no wonder so many people arc-up when you engage them. Your ignorance and bad manners seem to know no bounds.

Even when you are presented CLEAR evidence which refutes your current knowledge or assumptions, your ignorance and stupidity seem to take over.

If you find the opinions and evidence presented by others too distasteful to deal with, why don't you just leave others be? I can see the soul-destroying stuff you have written to some really nice users in a number of threads.

If you don't care for the thoughts and ideas of the others you launch your flames at, just bite your tongue and leave us all alone!

Probably a relief to the whole Sunderland community given your obvious abrasiveness, apathy and ignorance.

Your youtube video isn't evidence lol are you saying the nhs provide the balloon currently for morbidly obese people ?

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
