The day of my surgery when I was wheeled into my room I had to use the bathroom. When I got up one of my sutchers had broke open. I was covered in blood..gown from breast down, bed had to be removed a new one brought in, floor mopped. It was bad. The nurses put a gauze and tape over it. The bleeding stopped. But evidently it bleed under the skin, no bruising. I was having considerable pain they said it was gas. 9 days later at post op appt. Dr. Said he thought it was muscle spasm which kinds stood to reason with how I felt. Ordered a CT scan for Monday. Scan showed softball size hematoma. Anyone have had experience with this? Anything I can do to help it disolve quickly? Just think of shoving a softball inside by your ribs and continuing on. Please any ideas help. I'm using with hazel and massaging it. If you have ever had a cyst its that sensitive

A hematoma is a collection of blood in the tissue. You are basically waiting for it to resolve on it’s own. Take your pain medicine and walk and follow the surgeons activity orders. They can be slow to resolve, but it will slowly go away on its own. I’m not aware of anything to speed the process though.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you guys so much for the information. Ice seems to help better then heat MOSTLY! Otherwise I fell pretty darn good, but this is just wearing me down with the pain. Dr prescribed valium for the muscles which helps a lot but of course can't take them at work! Lol I'd be approving all kinds of stuff! Or be lights out!

Only thing I was told when I had mine was moist heat. Just so you don't freak out - I remember when mine burst open. I was in the in my chair and absently scratched at my stomach when there was an itch or tickle. I don't know if it had started leaking and that's what caused the itch, but the gentle scratch unleashed a flood. I freaked out! Dark muddy blood was flowing from my largest incision area. I shuffled to the bathroom and kept folding toilet paper to absorb the blood.

I don't remember how much there was, but it seemed to continue to empty forever. And when it finally stopped and I stood back up, it started all over again. I called the hotline and they explained what was going on and told me to calm down. The next day I went to the surgeons office and they packed it with gauze and left it open to drain. It will heal from the inside out. Left with a patch of gauze taped to me and was back to normal.

I ended up using a maxipad taped to my stomach for the next couple days. I joked to my boss and wife about my entire ordeal up to then. I was cranky, tired, swinging from being OK then weepy and full of regret the next, and now I was using a maxipad. Obviously I had just gotten my first period.

Mine happened less than 2 weeks out. I know because it was right before I went back to work.

Oh, there was no pain associated with mine. It just felt weird. After it burst, it was disgustingly hollow. Let me mention that I am a wimp when it comes to these things. My wife and daughter thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Quick note about pain killers; they will constipate you. Get off them as soon as you can. Otherwise it will feel like you are trying to pass a pineapple on the john.

a CT scan they found a softball sized hematoma on Friday and by the following Monday I couldn't stand it any longer I went to the emergency room I got it in at 11 and by 4 p.m. they did an emergency surgery turn into an infection they had to drain it and I think the worst pain I've ever felt in my entire life is when they packet and unpack the gauze two and a half Days it's getting a little better but it's still the most painful thing I've ever seen in my life God bless old people and I hope there's a special place in hell for people that Miss treats old people that can't take care of themselves I'm sure there's elderly people in nursing homes that can't take care of themselves and nobody takes the time to do stuff easily them

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
