I'm being sleeved on November 28th, do you always get a drain and does it stay in for a couple days? I don't recall anyone mentioning in my appointments a drain. I am staying in the town where I'm having surgery for a few days and then flying home. Now I'm starting to worry that I'll have to go back to have a drain removed before I can leave. Any thoughts. Most of my Aftercare will be via phone and with my family doctor in my home town

A drain could be needed but the over whelming majority of the time it will be surgeon preference (ie that surgeon likes to put a drain in all their patients). Easiest way to find out is ask

I had to have a drain and it stayed in for a week. It was a pain in the butt and make that side of my body not heal as fast but it was so simple when the Dr removed it, I didn't even feel it, no joke there is no reason why your family dr couldn't remove it unless your surgeon just insists on him doing it.

A drain is usually put in because there is excess blood after surgery that needs to be removed. If you will not be around your doctor while it is still in, I would ask them about that before you left.

I didn’t have a drain either. Like the PP said- I think it’s surgeon’s preference most of the time.

My surgery was yesterday and I had a drain post op. They took it out at 5am before I went home. Feels so less sore with that thing gone!

I'm glad things are going well. What are you eating? Are you going to try Campbell creamed Soups when you can go on full liquid?

I am on full liquid now, but my stomach doesn’t like it much. My diet is mostly popsicles, Isopure Protein Drinks, and popsicles. Tried jello—took forever to finish 3 oz. eating 2 table spoons of hot Cereal right now—going slow. Cream of Soups didn’t work well for me, I got nauseous. Can’t wait until day 7 when I can have eggs and cheese. That’ll open some doors for food choices.

Wow day 7 and already getting too eat eggs ang cheese.. my dr made me wait 5 wks before I could have anything but liquids
