I am feeling like a failure

Recommended Posts

So right now I am just about at 5 months post op. I have slipped back into old habits. I don’t feel like I am losing weight as best as i can. How did you handle this, if this happened to you. Did you just restart the Protein Shakes? I am just feeling bummed and disappointed in myself.

I would ask myself the question "What is the reason for this?" first.

Start with the "Why did this happen?" and then go from there. (Please exclude "It's because I have no willpower" from the possible answers. ;))

I'm 7 months postop, and it's amazing how, when your life is no longer on the line, it becomes easy to let things slide.

The thing that keeps me on track is a dry erase board in my kitchen. Imagine the old food pyramid:

6-11 grains, 3-5 vegetables, 2-4 fruits, Etc.

Anyway, I created my own food pyramid, and when I eat something, I check it off.

Here is my pyramid during the weightloss phase:

Unlimited nonstarchy veggies

2-3 starchy veg, legumes, or fruit

3 dairy

2 meat, fish, or eggs

1 nuts or seeds

supplements

(No grains or added sugar and aim for 70g protein)

I do eat more carbs than most, but that is a personal choice based on my own metabolism, and what makes my plan sustainable for me. I do aim for lower-carb options within the food groups.

YOURE not a failure. Your a wonderful beautiful human being. Losing or gaining weight is not a reflection of your worth. You are worthy no matter what.

Wls and weight loss is really hard!! You can hit stalls and it can get scary. My advice is to just stick to the plan you’ve been given as best as you can and focus on doing the things that will give you the best restriction. Weight loss can be slow for some people and that’s okay. If you eat off plan, don’t beat yourself up!! It’s not an all or nothing thing. You have restriction and your body may just need some time to begin losing again.

Work on your self worth. You are so much more than your weight. Even if you never lose another pound, you are NOT a failure. You are great no matter what you weigh. It’s good that you are trying to import a your health but your health and weight does not give you value. You have value no matter what.

You don't need to go onto Protein Shakes you need to practice the basics again if Protein first no more than 4 ounces.

Whats your daily eating like ?

Ok, so you had a bad day. Or few days. Look at why and go back to basics. Log everything you eat, eat Protein first and drink 64 ounces of non-caloric liquid a day. Start with that. And then ask what caused me to get off track. Because surgery isn't a magic bullet. It is a tool for you to you.

We are going to fall off the wagon from time to time. The key is getting back on again and moving it forward. Saturday night, I wend to a major party for a friend who was celebrating more than one milestone - a birthday with a 0 and a wedding anniversary with a 0. We've known each other for a very long time. I had wayyyyyy tooooooo much to drink. My hubby, love him, drove, but I blew through a boatload of calories drinking and ate all kinds of things I shouldn't have eaten. Sunday, I dusted myself off, drank a boat load of Water, ate my 85 grams of protein and fenced for 3.5 hours in a tournament.

I got back on the wagon. Ask why. And if you can't find the answers on your own, get help. This surgery only works if you're head is in the right place for the long term.

You need a revisit, but Protein Shakes aren't the answer, because they're not sustainable. Don't look for a short term solution; start looking for things you can eat for the rest of your life and be not only losing weight but also happy with your food choices. Make meal plans, and figure out what you'll enjoy eating but that will also fit within your dietary restrictions. In the long run, this will be much more successful than something you do for a short while before going back to poor choices.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
