Help!!!! Help me please!!!

Recommended Posts

Surgery date was 9/5/17.

i can still only eat Jello, fruit, and juices, my body doesn't like Protein Shakes. I'm weak and thirsty. I'm not doing good with this surgery at all. My doctor thinks it's all in my head. Which it is, I'm terrified to eat regular food. Like to the point that I try and I throw it up. Tomorrow I'm going to try a different kind of Protein Shake.

ive tried apple sauce, sugar free pudding, eggs,

The doctors have done a leak and tablet test and everything came back normal and fine. Blood work looked great too!

I hiccup 24/7 and when I throw up...it's awful, it drains me. I'm not starving but internally I am. I wake up at 3 am and start gagging, I then get up and drink some juice and eat a table spoon of jello and then wait 1 1/2 hrs before I can go back to bed, granted this is if I go to sleep at 10pm which is normal for me because I'm that tired.

Heartburn is real, I take meds for that and it works but sometimes like today it's like the fruit I consumed is still in my throat. I chew slow and eat tiny bites.

Move probably never been full since surgery and I don't want to be because I hear it hurts.

How do I over come of being afraid to eat normal food again. Did anyone struggle with that??

i keep in contact with my nutritionist and doctor and they think it's all in my head.

Help me please! I feel like death 24/7 :(

-Tori

Hello Nancy,

I had some of these same issues. This is my first month since July of not vomiting after eating certain foods. The heartburn has gotten better. I try new foods with caution, but right at 3 months- it is better. My good friend has been chewing gum it helps my stomach feel better after eating. Plus I feel normal after chewing gum. Also, I have done well with eating fish and my new favorite meat is snow crabs - easy to eat. I also eat watermelon; it is soft. Also, I eat mussels now - packed with Protein and Iron.

I hope this helps.

I haven’t had the sleeve yet, still in the research phase. Ive heard a few people talk about papaya enzymes. It’s supposed to be really good in helping with the stuck feeling and digestive problems.

It's been a month and 4 days for me. I was exactly like you the first few weeks after surgery. Don't be afraid. It will be better. Try some watermelon before you eat anything solid, it helps the food go down better. Watermelon helped me a lot. And after eating wait at least 20 minutes to drink some liquids. Walk walk walk it helps you after eating. It will get better. Today I could eat a halve of a grill cheese sandwich without any problem, a little diet margin and whole wheat bread with the cheese, nothing extravagant. I also could eat fish, all fish is a good source of Protein and soft. I tried to keep away from can fish and can vegetables. To many preservative and that could be a trigger for your stomach especially now. Don't give up. I am doing better wayyyyy better.
Good luck! And stick to soft foods to start getting your stomach use to eating again. Solid little by little.

Have you tried just a regular cup of milk? fruit tends to be really acidic. Milk is a buffer and can be soothing.

If milk works, then stay in the dairy isle... yogurt, cottage cheese, soft cheeses.. work your way up that ladder.

If dairy doesn't work, then try Beans. Soy milk, thin refried beans, split pea Soup, lentil soup, tofu..

The meat ladder: homemade broth, gently poached white fish, tuna with mayo, chicken thigh.

Just keep on trying.. start with more liquidy foods and work your way up.

Fruit doesn't have Protein, and if you can't stand Protein Shakes then you need to find food with protein that you can tolerate.

If you can tolerate fruit juice, then you can tolerate ready-made Isopure - it is clear and 40gr protein/20oz and a little tart. I prefer nlue raspberry or alpine punch. Purchased at Vitamin Shoppe.

Drink some hot tea first to relax your throat.

Protein Shakes did not sit well with me so I drank a Protein Water. There are quite a few different ones on the market now. I drank the Atkins ones but I know GNC makes some good ones as well.

As for the fear it's normal but you have to fight through it. I was scared to start eating again as well. Would it hurt, would I cause a leak, would I throw up (I never threw up during my early post op so that was a fear for me), what if I can't eat normally again. I'm now 9.5 months post op and love my new normal eating habits. I can eat pretty much anything but in smaller amounts but it took trial and error to get there. Start trying all kinds of soft foods. Mashed Potatoes, Refried Beans, Ricotta, Yogurt, Cottage cheese, Cream Soups, Broths and once you find something that works branch out to food of similar make up and consistency.

Lol. This wasn't my experience. Isopure or death.. give me death! (But not death by isopure! Please NOOOO!)

But, as with everything, your mileage may vary, and so it's worth a shot..

I have been having terrible vomiting since about 10 days post op (sleeved 10/2). I can barely keep down anything but Water. Even thinned Protein Shakes are iffy. I am supposed to have been able to move to pureed food about a week ago and still can't keep down most foods from the full liquid phase. It is miserable! I feel your pain.

My doctors think it may be my gallbladder, which is full of stones, but I don't have any pain. They are thinking gallbladder because I was able to tolerate things right after the surgery that I can't anymore. Does your tolerance seem to be getting worse or has it been equally bad since sugery?

Hi I had surgery on Oct 9 and everyday feel nauseous. Two things have helped curve the nausea: hot tea and chicken broth. Water also helps. This week I started my blended diet and have tried plain yogurt and tofu. I loved Protein Shakes before surgery, but cannot stomach them at the moment. So while my diet is bland I feel less nausea over the course of the day. Best of luck.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
