Phase Two Questions

Recommended Posts

I drink my 64 oz of Water with no issues along with 120grams of Protein Shakes. I just finished a bowl of pureed asparagus Soup with no issues either. What am I doing wrong? I listen to people talk about how hard it is to drink water and I am able to do the program with no issues. Can I be stretching out my stomach already? Either I am the luckiest guy in the world or I am really screwing myself up. I feel a little knot in my upper chest around the breastplate, I guess that's my new full feeling.

I haven't had any trouble getting Water or Protein in either. I think everybody's body is just different. If you had more swelling, it's more difficult to drink. I must not have had much swelled much, since I haven't had any issues with it.

I moved on to phase 3 today, and it definitely feels different than the liquid phases.

Can I ask how much water you drank before surgery? I drink over a gallon a day now and I worry about not being able to get enough after surgery. Maybe it's easier if you drank more before?

I was only drinking Protein Shakes and coffee. I hate Water but it has fast become my friend. When I did my pre-op labs they said I was dehydrated, to begin with. They put me on an IV several hours before the surgery to get me hydrated.

I never felt full on liquids. I started feeling full on soft foods but didn’t truly feel full till I started solids last week.

Did your NUT say 120 g of Protein? I was taking in around 120-140 at first because I was terrified of losing muscle mass. NUT said it was unnecessary and too many calories. However, I’m a girl so you could need more protein.

I’ve seen a bunch of videos that stretching your sleeve is essentially a myth, especially with fluids. What happens is your brain and hunger hormones basically return to pre-surgery levels so you lose that perk.

That knot is exactly how I feel normal full. Any more food and I feel uncomfortably full.

The rule of thumb on Protein is take your ideal weight, the weight you want to be and divide that by 2.2. That will tell you how much protein you need per day. You can not stretch your stomach on a liquid diet. If you drink to much to quick you will throw it up.

I always read it was around .8-1g of protein per pound of body weight. I’d never be able to consume that much protein but that’s the rule of thumb I’ve always read.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
