Traveling after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I just recently had my surgery, 9/15. Things are going great and now I'm starting to look towards future. We are going to Disney World in December, a little over 3 months after my surgery. Anyone have tips on how to eat out for a week straight? DW specific tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Not specific to Disney. But I never had a problem sticking to my program when eating out.

appetizers became a meal. Shrimp cocktail is perfect.

Aim for things like lean Protein, chicken breast, fish, filet mignon, etc....and a small side salad without cheese or croutons and the dressing on the side. Just dunk your fork before each bite.

Ask that things be prepared with little to no oil/butter/fat.

sauces on the side & dunk your fork before stabbing the food. You will get the taste of the sauce with few calories.

No potato, Pasta, rice, bread, etc....

If you can peruse menus online beforehand, there may be helpful nutritional info.

It's best to stick with whole protein as opposed to ground meat. Some places I've seen the turkey burger with FAR higher calories than a beef burger. Both options would be too high in fat.

If you see a sandwich that you want to try, ask that they leave off the bread and put it on a bed of lettuce.

Stick with the no liquid 1/2 hour before/after eating.

If people at your table are OK with no basket of bread/butter, that's a help.

Stay away from things breaded, fried, sauced, etc....

I still do all these things at almost 6 years out......

And.....have a wonderful time!!!

You will need to buy some food most likely at a food store to put in your mini fridge. You'll find the Parks and the hotels have almost nothing for you to consume. Sorry.

I had my surgery last week and I am able to eat clear Soups right after. Remeber when in doubt go back to the basics. I would recommend that when in a pinch.

Are you flying and renting a car? or driving? Take your own cute thermos (Sip by S'Well) with you - empty of course in suitcase, and get a little individual blender. Pack some gasx strips, Vitamins, stool softeners, etc. If renting a car, go to a grocery and get some Protein waters, yogurts, string cheese, milk, Protein Bars, individual packets of nut butters, small bag of almonds - if you tolerate them. Put a couple of these items in a fanny pack or small day pack. Keep liquid with you all day, try to eat something in between actual meals because you won't know exact times you will eat or how long waiting times will be in lines. Just pick protein first when dining.

Have fun.

If you are going to Orlando, almost all the restaurants around Disney World will accommodate you. They all have actual chefs that would be more than willing to cook specially for you. How do I know this? Because I am a chef and chef's like to cook food that truly improves peoples lives.

Around the park or outside of them yes. Inside of the parks, no

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
