Hunger pains or something else

Recommended Posts

Surgery 9/6/17.

All was well. This morning I woke to what feels like incredible hunger pains. I was sent home with nausea and pain pills but I am unclear what I'm feeling. I took the pain pills, sipped on 1/4 cup of milk but this pain is not going away. It's Sunday so I will need OTC meds. Ideas on what I'm feeling and how to stop it?

Acid!!

While our stomachs are healing acid mimics hunger pains.

If you aren't on an acid reducer get some over the counter omeprazole or better yet consult with your doctor and get a prescription. If you are on one ask about increasing it. I needed to double my Protonix prescription.

Really common post op.

Pretty disappointed. I made a call to doc's answering service at 11am. (It's Sunday) By 5pm I had taken 6-8 tumbs and an OTC zantac. I called again because now I'm freaked out in doing more harm. They found a different doctor to call me. That was a waste of time for us both. He didn't understand what the big deal was. I explained i just had gastric sleeve less than a week ago. He asked where my pain was. I told him in my abdomen. He said then it would not be acid reflux, or I would feel it in my chest. He told me if my doc wanted me on a medication he would have sent me home with one. (*&^$='= REALLY) I have now had another zantac and 2 more tums. The pain is starting to lessen but would still say a solid 5-6 pain level. I'm so scared I'm hurting my incision.

I would advise any pre survey folks to discuss this with your physician.

Acid in my belly feels like hunger and makes a hissing sound if I stand up straight. I'm almost 2 months out and I still have pretty bad acid production and take Omeprazole in the morning and one Pepcid in the evening. I have to remind myself it isn't hunger.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
