Surgery was the EASY part

Recommended Posts

I had been told by my surgeon and my dietician that surgery was going to be the easy part of this journey. I did not believe them.

I had seen people say that on this forum and I did not believe them.

I was so scared about my surgery, I couldn't see how that would be the easy part.

Here I am six days post op and I realize that surgery really was the EASY part.

I am back to work and stressed out and all I want to do is eat something and I cannot.

These next few weeks are going to be tough.

Having said that, I do not have any buyers remorse.

Anyone that is getting close to their surgery date, be prepared as surgery is going to be the easy part.

Actually losing weight is the easy part, maintenance is the hardest thing.

I kind of know what the OP means, though--the first few weeks suck, no question. I'm so sick of Protein Shakes I could scream. I want to eat real food--not a lot, no, just something that tastes (and not sweet).

But I'm a very, very long way from maintenance, and I'm willing to bet that's true. It always was, wasn't it? We all knew how to lose weight--keeping it off was the mystery. Maybe a little easier given the ability to lose a larger portion of our excess weight, but . . . going to be hard when we can eat pretty much anything again.

You got this , it will get easier just keep thinking of the future and your plans etc, and healthimprovements , this helped me when i was feeling miserable on purees lol. I think it got easier when I moved onto solids. I felt more 'normal'

So true! Hang in there because it does get easier with time. Once you're used to it and the weight is coming off it will become your new normal.

The more time that goes by the easier it gets. I am not going to lie, it sucks the first few months, but then you get used to it and you know what you need to do. Keep up the great work, your weight loss surgery family (us) are here to help and give you the extra support that you need.

I've had so many surgeries that I totally believe that will be the easiest part. I am not scared of the surgery at all; but I'm very worried about the "emotional" aspects of all this. I've always been big and loved food, so I don't even know how to exist otherwise. And my whole social life seems to revolve around food. I think that is going to be the biggest struggle for me; getting used to a new normal. Hang in there! You went back to work so soon!

Walter, back to work after only 6 days! Yikes!

Yes ma'am, I am pretty hardcore.
All kidding aside, I didn't want to come back.
But I work for a bunch of assholes and didn't want to miss too much time.

That has been the hardest part for me, the emotional side. I thought I had prepared myself for life post surgery and I was wrong. It has been much harder than I anticipated. I am in recovery and do not drink or drug anymore been sober 10 years. Food was the last thing I could abuse. Now it is gone and I can't abuse it anymore. It has been very hard. However, my body does feel alot better just with the 35 pounds I have lost. Only 175 pounds more to go.

I have so much compassion for those of you dealing with food addictions. It really does get easier once you can eat solid foods. Once the NSC victories start piling up your motivation will keep you moving in the right direction. I know once I realized I could run there was no way I was going to do anything to sabotage my weight loss.

Just stay focused on the finish line.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
