Slowly losing but feeling discouraged...

Recommended Posts

So I went to the Dr for my 12 month check up, & after talking to him, he seemed to be discouraged. It was like he was giving up on me. I have lost 10 lbs in a little over a month, but it doesn't seem to matter. He didn't even come back in the room to talk to me, he just sent the nurse in. For those of you who are a year out or more, how did you continue to lose weight?

Was there a specific reason the doctor was disappointed? What was your starting weight on surgery day and how much did you lose in 12 months?

I was a slower loser who dropped an average of 3 to 7 pounds per month after the first 2 months. It took me nearly 18 months to reach my goal weight of 100 pounds lost.

I continued to lose beyond the 12-month point by increasing my calorie intake and, at the same time, increasing the intensity of my workouts. Basically, I moved more + ate more.

The move more/eat more plan has been working for maintenance, too. I'm able to maintain a body weight range of 118 to 122 pounds on a calorie intake of 2000+ calories daily by living an active exercise lifestyle that includes running, weightlifting, and other workouts most days of the week.

I took 17 months to lose 107 pounds, and years later over a year to shed 26 pounds of baby weight and to go under that initial goal. Slow loss is still loss; it's keeping it off that matters.

I only had one double digit month, many stalls and also had to increase both calories and carbs for long term success. For me, maintenance is eating a balance and being vigilant - I'm actually increasing calories to gain right now. I've slowly dropped lower than I'd like.

Look at your overall progress for the year and the big picture on your eating habits, but most importantly, push forward. Many of us don't reach goal in that magical year. There's nothing stopping you but yourself.

This breaks my heart. As if his success is based on those who loose and loose quickly. Facts are there is little data on the rate of loss versus regain. Mainly because those who don't lose as expected or at the rate slower than that of their peers, drop out, give up or go it alone. Darlin' I'm a slow looser and sleeved a year in October but I don't doubt for a minute I'll make my goal. Stick with it stay strong and surround yourself with like minded groups and people. There are more outlets for assistance than just your doctor. Or maybe better still voice your experience to him and help others in the same circumstance.

I just shared on another post that I was sleeved in January 2017, and I'm almost 7 months out, but I've only lost 55 lbs. so far. I know I need to change some things, but I feel I'm a slow loser. I will not give up, and I've decided to go back to basics - the liquid diet. It also helps to have a good support group. I wish you luck and keep pushing!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
