Greetings to my fellow August sleevers! I'm new here and have been following (stalking) you all for the past month. :D

You all are doing fantastic! I'm losing pretty slow but am still happy to be losing. My heaviest weight was 232. My weight the day decision was made for sleeve was 222, and my weight the day of surgery (8/2/17) was 217.

7 months post op, I'm at 174. 34# left to get to my goal.

I look forward to learn from, find support, be supportive, and get to know all of you.

Nice to meet you Stace66! We are almost the same! I was 247lb before the pre-op diet, 236lb the day of surgery and I'm down to 170 as of my personal weigh in day this past Tuesday. I have 30lb to reach my goal.

Something funny I have noticed. Now that I'm within 15-20 pounds of being done, people who are 15-20 pounds overweight think I have "lost enough." I still have a belly and visible love handles, so it's not like I'm thin and am just going overboard. But people have this funny thing where they seem shocked and horrified at the possibility that I will go from morbidly obese to thinner than they are.

I also have a deal with my wife where if I get below 200, she has to quit smoking. I'm at 205 now and she keeps suggesting I can stop losing weight because I look great. Heh. I don't think she thought I would get here when we made this deal.

I am with you guys too! As of today, 68 lbs down. I was sleeved on August 7. It’s been slow losing since Christmas time but I am 100% At fault for that, eating too much processed and refined sugar/carbs. Though my calories are low, especially compared to where I was, I’m not making the best choices. I’m dealing with my food addiction demons of popping stuff into my mouth even when not hungry, and I really need girls scout Cookies to just GO AWAY. they don’t even taste that good to me now but that hasn’t stopped me. Ugh. I’m secretly hoping for a transfer addiction to home organization!

I’m three months ahead of you but had similar numbers so here’s a preview! ;-) My HW was 247. Surgery day was 226. 7 months post-op I was at 172. In three days I’ll be 10 months post-op and as of today I’m at 156. My goal is 150 (BMI of 25), so I’m pretty close, but I think I’ll be able to go a bit lower over time. Good luck and hang in there!

Personally, I eat around 800 on my non-workout days (weekends) but sometimes less depending on how I feel and I’m allowed up to 1500 on workout days because I do two back to back workouts. My weight has slowed significantly but my Hashimoto’s relapsed for an unknown period of time so I was fighting with my thyroid and I’ve been building muscle. I’m down to about 180 and fit in 27 vanity sizing gap jeans the other day so no complaints except my need for a mommy makeover.

Developed a complication so solid food is difficult. I vomit A LOT.

Congrats on your success! I was sleeved in August and am down 115 lbs still have a ways to go but feel so much better. A few people have commented but I think some are hesitant to do so which is fine by me. I struggle to see the change in myself. It’s all in my head. I haven’t bought new clothes fornfear a smaller size won’t fit. Makes no sense I know. My clothes are much looser but still wearable... definitely a journey we’re on!

It’s funny our clothes are still wearable. I’m awaiting incisional hernia repair and not working so I live in workout gear, which gives me more ability to not buy new stuff since it’s so stretchy. However, I tried on my first year law school jeans from 2013 when I was at just a slightly chubby weight. I could yank them down fully buttoned. And my law school suit was like a kid trying on mommy or daddy’s suit. Those two moments were my holy **** moments.

I get peeved when people say you’re melting, you’re half a person, or my favorite...do you eat. My BMI is 28. I’m still overweight so eff off assholes. Learn how to compliment in a kind way.

Bahahaha! This cracked me up! I was in the grocery store and someone said, "omg, what happened to you? You shrunk!" I stood there for a minute not quite sure how to respond. Thank you wasn't appropriate. Why do people do that?

I think people are just awkward and in shock and they blurt out whatever pops into their heads! Doesn’t make it OK. I’ve had people ask me if I’ve lost weight. Um, yes, 55kg (120lb). And then they’re like, proud of themselves for noticing!

Now that I’m the same (or smaller) clothes size as my sisters, they seem to think I should be done losing weight too. Like we have some binding pact that I can’t be thinner than them!

I’m down about 70 lbs and I’ve had several people ask me if I’ve changed my hair. I’m hoping they’re just being a bit awkward bc I’m hoping that 70lbs is much more noticeable than a hair cut. But at the same time when someone says I look like a whole new person, I feel weird. I never knew this part of the journey was going to be uncomfortable. I didn’t struggle with weight until after my kids and gained over 100lbs so when people tell me I look like a whole new person, I actually just look like me again.

I’ve also been dealing with not grasping the fact that I’m not 256 lbs anymore and am afraid to embrace my new weight. I’m so used to failing over and over again in the weight loss department that I’m terrified to let this be real.

I've given away at least 30 bags of clothing ... I don't have much now (can't buy EVERYTHING at once) but at least what I have fits!

I’ve also given away tons and tons and literally have 6-8 pieces of clothing I mix and match. Now that it is starting to warm up, I’m panicking bc all I have is winter stuff. It feels really, really good to have a really well cleaned out closet but I do look like I’m wearing a uniform with such a small wardrobe!

I just had my first experience with someone treating me negatively re surgery and weight loss. My sister has clearly become the green eyed monster because I’m down 90 + lots of new muscle, full of self-confidence and people raved about how I looked at her husband’s bday dinner. I was always the better looking, relationship successful sister but when I got heavier I lost my self esteem, haven’t dated since 2009 and she got married. I decided to cut her out of my life for at least a while. She also said the surgery made me skinny even though it was surgery helping me change my diet and doing 10 workouts a week. That belittles how hard I’ve worked.

What’s extra silly is she’s naturally thin. She has a much smaller frame while my mom says I’m built like a German (IDK!) and have always been an athletic body type.

Why can’t people just be happy for you?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
