I am hearing lots of different stories about the pain after surgery. What does it feel like if anyone can share their stories. Some say it's soar like you did crunches some say it's excruciating pain. I'm getting worried

Personally I had a lot of rib cage pain just after surgery because of the gas. That resolved Day 2 with a lot of walking. With my incisions, it did feel like I had done 200 sit ups. The pain was not unbearable. Like any surgery that involves incisions, you have some pain but it gets better everyday. I am 17 days post op with absolutely no pain now.

The only incision that really bothered me was the big one where the must have pulled the stomach out of. It was painful to get up in bed and out of a low chair but manageable. I could not lie on that side either. I found that if I cuddled a pillow in bed and on the couch I felt much better. I only took painkillers at night to help go to sleep and that was only for about 5 days. Honestly the rest of the incisions didn't even figure in the scheme of things.

Zero pain with my incisions.

Insides, a lot of cramping with even the tiniest sips...........this resolved when I took my pain meds as prescribed (was not taking at first, since no incision pain). By day 3-5-ish, didn't need pain meds anymore.

For me the pain was pretty persistent. Felt a bit like period cramps x10 but over the whole stomach not just the lower abs. Holding a pillow over my tummy to add some pressure helped ease some discomfort. I took my pain meds for 5 days and Tylenol for another 4-5 days. It wasn't unbearable most of the time but very uncomfortable for the first week. The part I liked least about the pain is I had no idea if I was getting full while I was eating yogurt or drinking Protein Shakes. The only signals I was getting from my tummy were pain and nothing else.
If you tolerate pain well I think you'll be just fine. And if you have a lot of pain that's what the meds are for! Use them as needed/directed.

My worse pain was from gas pain in my upper back. Incisions were sore but bearable. I got Tylenol 3 and only used a few times. My best advice is to walk walk and walk some more!! It really does help

They did a block for me so when I discharged from the hospital 24 hours later I literally was ok with just Tylenol. Gas was the hardest part of it and walking truly did help with that! Some others in my class were getting dissolvable gas X from Amazon prior to surgery otherwise for myself it was just some discomfort and I moved that gas out whichever end would relieve it lol..... Everyone handles it differently, hopefully you will be on the lighter side of pain though! Good luck!

Well...the pain from the muscle incision was the worst pain for me! Anytime I had to use my core was dreadful! My best advice is to purchase a belly band from Amazon..look up bariatric/c-section/tummy tuck support! It saved my life! Wish I had this with me at the hospital! Relief as soon as I put it on!

I HURT BAD. I cried for 2 days regretting my decision. I was given no pain meds in recovery was done out patient and felt like they were very rushed. I was extremely unhappy about the way they did their patients. However, it's been 5 full days today and I'm much better. I can walk almost upright, I can't bend down and pick things up still, but the pain is minimal. Still sore but pain and soreness are different. The first 2 days it felt as if I had been beaten with a baseball bat repeatedly. I also had asked the same question you did "how bad will it hurt" so I had prepared myself for pain as bad as a Csection and it was If not a tad worse. But do nothing the first several days except lay in bed and heal and you WILL feel better even if you doubt believe you will:)

Omg! That's what I've been dealing with!!! It's SO bad!!!! So you bought something that helped? How long did it take for that band to start helping?!

I am on day 4 post-op. Still hurts to laugh on one side mainly. I did not expect so much pain and discomfort. I am still drinking little sips of things. I took pain meds to help sleep last night and feel like crap today. It's lingering in my system.
I am pretty sure I made the right choice, though.

Hi there

I'm just sore like doing crunches but if I roll over to either side it is painful. Standing while trying to drink is the best way. Seriously it's nowhere as bad as you think it will be. Three days out here, night one I was too drugged to feel anything and last night was just agitated as I wasn't able to turn over in my sleep.< br>
I'm only on paracetamol too. The more you walk the better. It's really not bad. I might just be lucky!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
