Did anyone get surgery / look into Dr. Frank Chae in Colorado?

Recommended Posts

Did anyone get wls with Dr. Frank Chae in Colorado? If so, how did it go? I have an introductory appointment with him soon and I can't find any reviews for this year. My apologies if someone has posted asking about him already - I'm not sure how to search the forums.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi, Ladybutternubs.

Did you ever end up having your surgery with Dr. Frank Chae? I met with him for an initial consultation in November 2017 and am currently working on completing the insurance requirements during the mandated 6 month waiting period. If you proceeded with his office, can you please share how your experience was? If you didn't, would you be willing to share why?

A friend of mine had VSG by Dr. Chae about 1.5 years ago and raved about him and his office to me. She also has several friends who had surgery performed by him. I've read many positive reviews about him online and have seen some of his video clips (i.e. him being on The Doctors show recently about vBloc).

All the best... hope to hear about your journey and decisions. :)

I did! My experience was AWESOME with Dr.Chae. I had a list of 20 questions for him the first time I met him and he was super patient and super knowledgeable. His credentials are impressive and he's calm and collected like a surgeon should be. I gained some weight between insurance surgery approval and the actual surgery and he was very understanding and not judgmental at all. Any time I had concerns post-op, my husband would text or call him and he would respond within a few hours or sooner.

I've also had plenty of support from the dietitian and her support group Post-Op. The only thing I'm struggling with is the mental hunger/habitual addiction to food that came back as soon as I was healed - and they never really address or help you with it besides "change your habits" and "don't snack or drink." I think most WLS centers don't really address that but I could be wrong. I'm looking into behavioral therapy to help, because if you don't change your eating habits, you can definitely snack and eat around the sleeve (I have a few times). Anyway, I hope this helps! :) Let me know if you have specific questions!

Hi, Ladybutternubs!
Thanks for the response... I haven't been on the app or site for awhile so I'm just now seeing your reply. Thank you! I just attended the support group Kelly runs last night for the first time! Were you there? Do you go regularly?

I had surgery with Thomas Brown this week and he’s been amazing! Is there somewhere I can read about your husbands experience, missy?

I recently, meaning my first appointment was last month, started seeing Dr. Parrish at

Mid Louisiana Surgical Specialists in Alexandria, La.

Anyway I'm going to have the gastric sleeve done if I complete every thing. They seem to be very theral in there weight loss surgery. They put you through the ringer. You have to first get a dozen blood test done, go to a seminar that Dr. Parrish speaks at hisself, then theappointments starts..I have one for nutrition, psychology, physiologist, and EENT Dr. That's what I have so far. I have four appointments on same day because it's a two hour drive from where I live. I know tje phychologist is there to help you identify and fix the underlying problem that you have with eating. I think this place is very professional but also they make you feel at home and reassured when you with them. They treat each patient like they are someone special and you know they gonna do everything in their power to get you healthy.

The only thing I don't understand is why do you have to quit smoking thirty daysbefore your surgery or they want do it.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
