Hi,

This is my first time posting, but I have stalking this site for quite some time. LOl. I have a BMI of almost 36, and I have a few comorbidities. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and am pre-diabetic. I am also going to be going in for a sleep study within a week. I do not take any medications for any of my current diagnosis' as they are all recently diagnosed. I am wondering what everyone's experience has been with Medicaid in California. I called my insurance and they told me that they will cover it, but I have to wait. I am Yo-Yo dieter and my fear is that I will lose some of the weight in the process and might drop before a 35BMI. I know the weight will just come back, but I am worried that will disqualify me. Also I might be able to get a loan from family to go the cash pay route, but then I would essentially be signing my life over to them. I am just worried about essentially waiting 7 months to have surgery to find out they wont do it. Thoughts? I could use some encouragement. I know this this surgery is going to allow me to spend more time doing the things I love to do, and it is worth it. Waiting just seems like the worst thing ever. I just want to get the process started.

35-40 BMI medi-cal will cover with 6 months supervised weight loss. You might have a hard time finding a surgeon who will do it if that's your primary. Medi-cal is my secondary so they just pickup what is leftover.

Medi-cal wants a percentage of your body weight lost as opposed tot he 6 month supervised diet. Blue Cross requires a 6 month supervised diet with no minimum weight loss required (at least medi-cal in ventura county worked that way). Regardless, any program wants to see some type of effort on the clients part. Medi-cal WILL cover the surgery if it is medically necessary, but you have to follow the procedures / protocol for the authorization.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
